Title: Is this your cam?
Post by: LeviD1 on September 18, 2015, 11:12:52 AM
While out in search for elk this morning we cam across someones salt block and cam. Just wondering if its someone's on here. I dont want to describe the area in to much detail seeing how its your potential hunting spot. But there were 3 guys and a kid who packed it in on the 30th of august and there was corn to. In Leclerc area on top of a hill. I was hoping it was someone's on here cause I wanted to get some good pics of me haha. But I had a camera with me so fyi I check your chip and set everything back and on. But just thought you should know you need to put a bigger sd card in your cam cause it was full on the 13th. Hope you get out to put a new chip in soon. Looks like it could be a promising spot! Good luck!

A lot of people today wouldn't have faired very well back in the day.  Messing with someone else's stuff, sometimes doesn't end well.    If it ain't yours and it's public land, just leave it alone.  I'm just getting too old I guess.

So basically now you have "poached" their work and recon efforts. Go take a selfie, don't use other people's equipment.

Am I late to the party? Why would you mess with someone else's camera?
Why would you then post about doing so on the internet?
Unreal. Do your own work...

Thats cute but its not yours dont touch ot.  If i find your truck on public land can i drive it to town to get beer?  I mean ill pit it back, not like i am stealing it.  Just wanna take it for a spin.  I was going to drive to town anyway, and your truck was there so i used it.  Whats the harm?

Lol. Its on public land and I had my cam with me to set up in that exact same area. Im not going to throw my camera up 20 ft away just to go back and trudge through the area again, but instead now their spot will hopefully be untouched till they come back for what I'm assuming in rifle season. Just thought if they were on here they would want to know cause their missing out on pics. I have no plans to go back there so hopefully they kill something. Nothing was ruined or stolen. People areso touchy I gues. Theres plenty of people out there who just would have stole it or sit on their salt block every day. They packed it up a pretty steep hill and I'm sure it wasnt fun that's why I wont be back there again. Ive had people come through and turn my cameras off.... I'm glad they werent stolen. But his is still on just not taking pics cause of a small sd. If I had extra chips I would have popped a bigger one in for him and left his one on the inside of the cam. There was nothing malicious intended so no need to freak out peoples.

I am actually agreeing with you. I dont run trail cameras because of cash.

I have never pulled anyones card, stole anyones camera, moved anyones salt block or camera and I still see nothing wrong with checking the card and putting it back, leaving everything the way it was when you left.

If you leave a tree stand up or a ground blind up you dont expect anyone to use them on public land?

Nothing was ruined or stolen I completely, and most everyone probably will also, you did indeed steal. You stole the information on the card when you viewed the pics. People areso touchy I guess. Theres plenty of people out there who just would have stole it or sit on their salt block every day. Wow some seriously hypersensitive people on here. :yike: I have trail cameras out and i couldn't care less if someone took a look at the pictures and put everything back the way it was.Comparing it to touching another mans wife or vehicle is unrealistic. It's just looking at some pictures no damage no theft no malicious behavior why get so bent out of shape about it? I guess none of you would touch someones rifle if found in the woods because it's not yours or all the items in the what have you found in the woods thread?

People are very touchy about their abandoned property.

People are very touchy about their property.

People adding the word "abandoned" to it are simply using that to justify themselves for not respecting other peoples property.

A rifle laying in the woods exposed to the weather was almost certainly lost and taking it to find the owner is the stand up thing to do.  A trailcam is left in the woods with the specific purpose of returning to it.  Your comparison is much less realistic than the truck / wife comparison.  I like this thread it shows who has respect for other peoples property and who doesnt.

For thing in my life that some may consider wrong doing. Thats is about the extent of it. I did not know there were so many perfect people on this earth. Im sure you people who are being milicious toward me have never done anything worse than checking a trail cam pics. I highly doubt it. Please get off your high horses. I get now that maybe I shouldn't have looked at someone's trail cam pictures, but really some of your analogies are ridiculous. This is why a moderator just needs to delete the thread, really granted my feelings aren't all hurt that you guys are getting all crazy about this, but really couldn't some of your posts be considered cyber bullying? At least checking trail cam pics to my knowledge anyways hasn't contributed to suicide. So whats worse? If you guys want to get all crazy serious.

Obviously we have drastically differing opinions i find nothing disrespectful about someone looking at pictures and not stealing or damaging anything.Your seriously saying you would be just as offended with someone touching your trail camera as you would be if they touched your wife? get real

You can bare butt my cams, give them the finger, make funny faces, do what you want.

You open it, touch it, look at the card if you break into it, anything that involves you touching it you are getting your face posted with an exact time and location.

I don't need an explanation other than you think it okay to help yourself to other peoples equipment. Nope, I'm not perfect but I don't intentionally mess with anyone's equipment then think its funny and post online.

Sorry you feel this way. I just hope the real intent gets to the person who owns the cam. There were animals on there I would really like to tag. But like I stated before I still wont be back. And I wont be back to disturb the area checking the cam I was going to put up. Hope he gets up there's with a new sd cause there weren't even a probably a hundred pics and it was full. That was my intent.

Some of you guys on this board are something else.

It's about as simple as it gets.  If it isn't your camera leave it alone.  It doesn't matter what YOUR beliefs are.  It isn't YOURS it belongs to another FELLOW HUNTER.

No analogies needed I would think to exercise common sense and respect.

I hear what you are saying and see that your intent was not malicious, I agree. However, you attempt at humor, the fact that you of course left it alone, don't plan to hunt the area....all that.....it simply gets lost because you don't get the fact that you should have never messed with the cam in the first place. It doesn't belong to you. Bottom line.

Apparently analogies are needed because some people can't tell the difference between something that does not affect their lives and something malicious and spiteful.

Analogies are needed because some lose perspective on principles because they feel the level of severity determines right or wrong.

Not that I'm justifying this guys behavior - because people woll and already have twisted it way beyond where it should of went.
But if you find a 20$ bill on the ground are you going to leave it there because its "someone elses property" or are you going to pick it up for the fact that it will benefit you or simply be nice to have. If you have ever done this then your a straight hypocrit. I don't condone doing and woukdnt openly admit to doing it like this guy but give me a break. You guys with your "it shows peoples true colors" or w.e bs. Get over it. Say hey you probably shouldn't be doing that - most guys wouldn't appreciate it. And leave it at that....
If you want to keep your stuff private, lock it up. Just like you would your house and vehicle. For all you guys know the OP could be a standup guy and just may have not thought about saying what he did before he did.

A $20 bill on the ground was probably not intentionally put there like this game cam was, but I get your point.

No smossy, not the same thing.  A 20 on the ground is obviously lost.  A cam on a tree is there for the specific fact that the owner will come back to it.  No hypocrisy there.  Completely different circumstances.  Nobody sets a 20 on the ground with the intention of returning to it a week later.  Your analogy flat out doesnt work

I guess just agree to disagree because apparently according to the majority of people on this sight between dummy camps, treestands and trail cams think it's perfectly acceptable to leave your stuff in the woods for as long as you like regardless of the rules and expect know one to touch it ever.

I get it. I won't be doing it again if I happen to cross one in the future. I get what you guys are saying. It just didn't occur to me at the time. The analogy of the treestand is the perfect example in my opinion. Not some of these off the wall ones that have been said. Because yeah if I hung a stand on public land and someone was in it I would be kinda pissed. I think that was the best example. I also dont appreciate the comments in my other thread that are off topic to that thread and just plain being jerks. So thanks

A rifle laying in the woods exposed to the weather was almost certainly lost and taking it to find the owner is the stand up thing to do.  A trailcam is left in the woods with the specific purpose of returning to it.  Your comparison is much less realistic than the truck / wife comparison.  I like this thread it shows who has respect for other peoples property and who doesnt.

Your analogy flat out doesnt work
So now you're the authority on what is "obviously" lost  :chuckle:

Okay screw analogies.  Ill say this.  YOU might think its okay to check my camera, but it is MINE and i do NOT think its okay.  Dont touch my things.

Just chalk it up to a learning experience.  No harm done.  We all make mistakes, you owned it, it shouldn't define you or your character.  Don't let the keyboard cowboys get to you.  Their just bored rifle hunters like me.  :chuckle:

Thanks for posting that.....that alone got me to go remove my snippy comment from the other thread. It was already cleaned up so nothing to delete and I think owning up saying exactly what you said is a stand up move.

 I agree it is pretty far fetched to find someone's wife on top of a hill in that area so I apologize for my snarky-ness. Its Friday, all I can hear is bugles and I'm stuck here for a while yet. :hello:

Well it never was my intention. Im glad it was actually put into perspective because like what was stated before sometimes things do need put into perspective. Just some of the comments were off the wall in my opinion. I always own up to anything I do. If you dont then what really defines you.... anyways. Good luck hunting out there everyone. On a light note, Make sure to dust your cams for fingerprints.....

I am glad this thread calmed down.I have never touched another hunters camera but i would not care if they looked through the pictures on mine as long as it was not stolen or damaged Because i really wouldn't know if they did look or not if everything was put back the way it was and they deleted the possible pictures of them selves. :chuckle:

I wish I was hearing them! I know there's elk around just never in any sort of quantity for how much area. I dont think they need to talk around here. Im thinking early september is best where i am because now they are all cowed up with 1,2,3 cows and are content with that.

One thing to think about when checking someones camera like this. There are some cams that have rather finicky cards, sometimes if you put a card in a different camera it will mess with the formatting,it could automatically delete everything when you put it back in the camera, damage it, change settings, etc... could really screw up someones scouting and time.
