Title: Wolf hunting...
Post by: McCRIZZLEY on September 19, 2015, 10:47:15 PM: I recently moved to Pullman. Wolf hunting looks fun. What areas of Idaho would I want to head towards to do some scouting and unguided hunts? Is the population fairly even throughout the state? I have not done much Idaho exploring yet, is there a decent amount of huntable land?

Post by: cem3434 on September 19, 2015, 10:52:53 PM: Anywhere in the panhandle would be a good start. There is plenty of public access and quite a few wolves. I would suggest the Upper Pack River as a good starting spot.

There are plenty of wolves just east of you in Idaho, go northeast or southeast of Moscow, there is plenty of potlatch, state, and USFS land to hunt on.

Look at the Idaho wolf survey to know where the most wolves are located:

It's overran with Wolves I missed opportunity on one waiting for him to stop as he trotted up through the brush. I would drive roads right before dark and call when you see fresh sign. Keep your gun ready...never know when they are going to show up!

Post by: CAMPMEAT on September 20, 2015, 11:59:43 AM: Go to the taxidermist in Pearce and look at the wolf he has there, ( hopefully ) it was shot in Idaho near Pullman in a wheat field. Not the one where the guy shot it in Washington State either.

That'll get you really wanting a wolf, plus the taxi will share info with you... :tup:

No Pierce is east of Orofino.

Elk River/Bolville area is a good place to go too. If you go to the Elk River Lodge, there is a restaurant in there with lots of pictures of success stories including wolves.

Post by: Stein on September 30, 2015, 12:19:29 PM: If I wanted to hunt, I would make up a good ad and post it on craiglsist and local co-ops advertising myself as an honorable, safe and reliable hunter that would gladly trade work or salmon for wolf hunting on ranches. I would also offer to take as many coyotes as possible as well.
