Fulcrum and support geometry looks much improved! Combined with that new reduced torque guard they added last year they should be rather good. Still expensive for the performance level, but appear to be very nice.
First time in a long time I will be looking forward to shooting the new Hoyts. Last year I was surprised at how well the new guard performed. This year should even be better. Doubt they will convince me to shoot a Hoyt again. Still ugly hubcaps on the Carbons - Just can't figure out why they don't pay a little attention to improving that look. But I do expect shootability of these new bows to be superb.
Think there will be plenty of logo sluts emptying the kids college fund or mortgaging the house for the 2016s'!
-
Innovative year so far...PSE made a Hoyt and Hoyt made a Rytera! :chuckle:
-
Looking to move my 2007 Katera xl to back up status, not enough differences between it and the new stuff to spend the money on a current Hoyt. I'm waiting to see what Xpedetion and Prime come out with before I open my wallet.

you called me a logo slut.

you called me a logo slut.
:chuckle:
Does that mean you are mortgaging the house or spending the kids college fund? ;)
BTW - I thought we were done shoveling <30" A2A bows to adult men. That cable guard is a good one, but 28" :yike: I expect you won't be spending the kids future on that one!

I want a 36" ATA with a 7 1/2 brace that shoots 350 fps.
-
I almost pulled the trigger gonna nitrum last month but decided to wait and see how the new boss shot. Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon.

Me too!
Though finding one built for leprechauns that is not a Bowtech might be impossible :o
-
I am a big Hoyt fan and absolutely love my vector 35. Now I have found a reason to keep it longer.Sorry Hoyt but man those are some ugly bows. I'm sure they shoot great like most Hoyt's do but couldn't bring myself to buy one. Just my 2 cents.
-
Vector 35 :yike: that's like 3 years old.
-
2012 Mathews Z-7 Xtreme. 28" 333fps 7.25 brace 4.1lbs. 750$. How is a Hoyt better? :sry: Love my bow.

I know I know. The nitrum turbo is temping just can't get into the new 2016 bows. Maybe they have to grow on you.
Maybe I can pick up a nitrum at a close out price!

I have an opportunity to pick up a Nitrum 30 for $650 BNIB. I just haven't been able to find one to shoot to know if I should jump on it.

Should start seeing them on Ebay or ArcheryArgument for pennies on the dollar soon.
Don't think I could ever get myself to shoot a Turbo. But if the Nitrum 34 would have been lighter and accepting of the old grip I'd probably have one in the closet. It's a really nice bow! And the new Defiant 34 is sure to be even better. Even if it is Hoyt slow and anchor heavy. Looks to me, from an engineering standpoint, to be the best bow Hoyt has ever made.
-
28 inch :bash:
So? The old guys said same thing when 38" compounds came out. Heck I wish it was smaller. Like rifles (300short) people want small light and performance to match. Waffle? Yes but it reminds of bridges and engineering principles so I see strength and like it. Oh and its still faster. :chuckle:
-
Well at 333 its not faster than the hoyts I shoot so I guess it's still slower. :chuckle:

Se se Senor. I tested the hoyts then. Very nice shooters. Almost bought turbo??

I'll check out some Bows this weekend I think.

the spyder is a much better bow than the nitrum

:yike:
-
What spyder are you talking about?
-
The regular spyder not the carbon, it's quieter, smoother and just a tick faster
-

You must not have shot the same Nitrum that I did. I found the Nitrum quieter, stiffer, more stable and one whole heck of a lot better about torque. So much better in my way of thinking I wouldn't even put them in the same class.
If I had a Spyder and a Nitrum laying beside me when I saw a world record muledeer I would pick the Nitrum 100 out of 100 times for that shot! Spyder would never even enter my thought as the go-to bow in such a situation. Though I'd probably have a perfectly tuned Bowtech Experience there and never think about picking either Hoyt at that moment :chuckle:
-
Well your a pro and I'm fairly new to archery. All my friends shoot hoyts and each if us have different models. It was are opinion the spyder was better than the nitrum but opinions very I guess. He'll even the old man that owns knockpoint thought it was a better bow but there again opinions very. My bad
-
Oh yeah, the 2016 bows are so much better. They're quieter, smoother, faster, shorter, loaded with all kinds of new technology. You cant kill anything without one :chuckle:
sorry, I had to...

We all like what we like.
From an engineering standpoint I should absolutely HATE single cam bows. But I like them! Been my choice of bow many times over on big hunts. Take life and/or equipment too seriously and we forget to have fun. One of the reasons I have a difficult time with Hoyt cult members, but endlessly joke around with D-Rock.
Spyder is a good bow. Up until last year I put it as maybe #3 Hoyt bow of all time. I would shoot it without regret if I had no choices. Same thing can not be said for a lot other bows out there.
Wife has a Carbon Spyder. At first I even thought about getting one. Over time, though, we have grown disappointed with it. She is back to shooting an old Kobalt instead. I expect this year the Spyder will be replaced with the 2016 model. The reduction in torque last year combined with the improved fulcrum this year looks to be so much better! Time will tell, I guess. Just wish we could have a choice in ordering with the old Kobalt grip. I might very well go back to Hoyt if that happened :o :o
-
I like Hoyt because I like Hoyt.
-
I do love the people who get the new bows every year. I am cheap and I use the same bow until it is overwhelming just time to up grade. Up to four years ago my bow was a very old hoyt and it was heavy. I figure my current Hoyt will last another 6 years. My moto is don't fix what at broke. :chuckle:

New aluminum rise looks sweet.

This is the one for me.

Do you have enough A-Hole in your personality to become a top level spot guy?
I guess Larry Wise is a nice guy...so it is possible. Sorta like winning the lotto is possible :o

Well I'm trying.

Put my hands on the 30" aluminum yesterday. Shot it at 29.5 aroun 60# 355 grain arrow 295.

Quite the amazing improvement, isn't it? Even the fit and finish has been improved a little. No where near Prime or Elite, but moving in the right direction after so many years is encouraging, I think. There are a lot of high school kids that are about to be told if they want to go to college they better go get a job...Daddy needs a new Hoyt! ;)
Limb better, geometry better, dampeners better, cam better, riser better, fit and finish better, back wall better, vibration better, looks better, torque WAY better, fulcrum WAY better...pretty much everything but speed, grip and price is better! That's a lot more "better" for your hard earned mortgage payment.

I'm impressed you managed to get 29.5" to full draw

And no bow press!! No screw hidden behind the limb...what a novel concept. :o

Odd thing is neither Hoyt or Bowtech sell bow presses. You would think that two companies that could never figure out how to place a cam screw that wasn't hidden behind a limb would have capitalized on bow press sales :chuckle:

I forgot to mention how much better this year's hat is than last year's hat. Almost worth the price of the bow.

Buy a $1,000 hat and get a bow for free. SWEET!!
Buy two and get a free carbon pretzel that's as fast as a five year old on a Big Wheel :IBCOOL:
-
Would like to take a look at this year's turbo.
-
You know I'm not a big fan of 6" brace height bows. But, I do admit there are situations where they can produce a significant enough advantage that they become viable or even preferred. Accomplished shorter draw length shooters with a well developed form are definitely one of those situations. You would certainly fit into that! Then add the huge improvements found in this years Defiant (carbon & aluminum) and I think an archer like yourself has to seriously consider it. Especially since you never have a tag left by the time wearing heavy garments becomes an issue! ;) ;)
-
Well I'll be hunting late season mulies over thanksgiving this year and I'm getting pretty exited about it.
-
That to me is where low brace bows lose the most! That string gets so close to the wrist you really have a constant challenge with clothing. Heck, I can't where the same jackets I did back in my Hoyt days because of the new shorter 7" brace heights. >:( One of the reasons I began wearing Sitka Gear even with the horrendous camo pattern was because of the fit at the wrist. The new Cabela's Instinct Hybrid Puffy looks like it might be a good option.
If Hoyt would drop their bow prices to a modest fortune a guy could benefit from buying two of them. One for early season and one with a high brace for late season.
-
I've only had 6" brace bows since 08. Oops never mind scratch that I shot the alphamax 35" for a few years. Witch was 6 3/4 or 7. that's the bow that made me start liking the longer ATA bows. Short bows feel odd to me now.

Alphamax was a Witch! Temperamental *itch at least. Love it today hate it tomorrow love it again the day after that. A lot like the UltraTec. :chuckle:
Maybe one of these days Hoyt will produce a 35-36" bow with a smooth cam that shoots speeds equivalent to the competition. With the new riser and the new cable guard system they really should be able to achieve that without robbing shootability and adding 20 pounds to the physical weight. If Bowtech and Xpedition could achieve it with the Specialist and Perfexion, Hoyt should be able to do it if they really wanted to. And they could probably figure out how to do it in a model made for the height challenged. That might be a bow worthy of the price!
-
Why not pick the hyperedge in a neutral color? Would just have to get used to loading a BH through the shoot through riser...

Back when York came out with the STS guys thought threading the needle on each shot while hunting wouldn't be all that bad. We sure sold a lot of strings back then - Boing, Doing, Crack...Ah SHEEP!! Was good for business! :chuckle:
-
The expedition perfextion would be a sweet shooter but they are short draw haters over there and won't make me one in a 27" draw. 36 ATA 7 1/8 brace at 337fps. That would be a sweet 3-D bow!
-
Obsession just came out with a shoot through that looks right up your alley!

Would be so dang easy to make that happen too! I've been really close to shooting that bow myself. If I would have gotten a more personable vibe from the guys at their ATA booth, like you get at Bear, I'm certain I'd have killed a few with it already. One heck of a bow

Had a good chuckle today comparing specs of that HyperEdge you posted vs Bowtech's Fanatic
Hyper Edge: 36", 7" brace, 325, 4.6#
Fanatic: 36.5", 7.75" brace, 325, 4.6#
Seems like an easy choice to me and the fanatic even comes in Levi green for ya

Is the moron the one shooting Bowtech or the guy that refuses to buy the bow superior in every single specification just because he doesn't like the brand?? I guess we'll never know :dunno:

I have zero faith in bowtech.

The target limbs are completely different from the limbs on the hunting line. I think if you shot mine, you might actually like it

Even Bowtechs own ads show that you should be wearing armor while shooting them. :chuckle:

LOL I knew you could find something more original than the bomb suit :chuckle:

I am a fan of the Bowtech CPX bows. But I would never shoot one of the machined Club & Hinge limbs. Think a lot of people confuse the old company with the new and don't recognize the difference in limb construction. They see all the machined C&H limbs break and assume that is happening on all the bows. I guess that is Bowtech's fault for not purging that limb design from their entire line...like most everyone else has.
I have friends that refuse to shoot PSE because they had limb breakage issues with C&H limbs in the 90's. They won't shoot Mathews because they bought the DXT. Won't shoot Martin because they bought their C&H limbs. They won't shoot Sims because they bought their first C&H...etc, etc, etc. You would think after awhile they would stop falling for all the advertising hype and just avoid the weak design. Unfortunately, as long as manufacturers and bean counters are making an extra few bucks they will continue to be sold.
-
Hey rad, is that the club and hinge design in that picture of that bowtech?. Haven't heard of that design before being some what new to bow hunting
-
Hey rad, is that the club and hinge design in that picture of that bowtech?. Haven't heard of that design before being some what new to bow hunting
That is what I call a machined club and hinge limb. Basically a large heavy club head that focuses the limb to bend at a hinge point rather than evenly over most of it's length. Not to be confused with Elite which looks the same but is laminated by the best! Even then I think Elite could do a lot better, but it wouldn't be something I worry about on Elite. Bowtech's CPX really gets flex over a large area. Really helps reduce stress in the compression area. As does the Bear, PSE, Xpedition, Hoyt, some Mathews... There is a reason most everyone has gone away from that design.

Got my hands on the new turbo today 1 arrow and I was sold. 15 yds no sight 1st arrow out of the bow. Dumb luck? Absolutely but it's a sign maybe :dunno:

Hyper edge or a defiant turbo can't decide.

I have zero faith in bowtech.
Why? They produce some great products.
