Ive been off here awhile with comp. probs.I wanted to see what you guys think.I talked to wdfw a few weeks ago trying to figure out vacation time for 09 deer season. They said they were pushing to move deer season back one week hoping that it would be colder out. What do you think?

That sounds good to me. But what about elk season? Would they move that back too?
-
Deer season will open on the 17th of October. Its always the Saturday after the tenth and when the tenth is on the Saturday, it bumps to the next weekend.
-
I had to have my vacation schedule in by December 31. I thought it would start on the 10th so that is the week I took off. Now my whole game plan is shot. No way to change thru my company as the next week is already taken by another guy.

:yike:
will muzzleloader be open during that time?
I know this year it started the weekend before modern season and then ended on the friday before modern opened up :dunno:
-
yeah it usually is but I have some guys I go with every year over on the eastside. We lease a bunch of land over there and I really don't want to go over and hunt without them. Well that is still 9 months away. Maybe i'll win the lotto or something.

There is alwyas the chance I am wrong. :dunno:

I have tried several times to explain to everyone that it makes little difference when the season starts unless you are after "local" deer, the biggest effect moving the season a week would come from ending it a week later in the season, like the last week of October. :twocents:

I think what bone said is true, its always the first saturday after the tenth so this year would be the 17th unless they really change how they've always done things.
-
I dont know nothing about it always being the first saturday after the tenth.I didnt know thats what determined it.They just said they wanted to move it later in the month giving the weather a chance to get colder. It sounded that there was more to it than it just being the first saturday after the tenth.

I dont see the them moving the season back because of weather and at the same time close down all late archery, its counter productive. F&W are trying to limit the amount of animals harvested not make it easier, and moving the dates back would only increase the chance of harvesting :twocents:

They didnt say anything about closing late archery. They would not have to late archery on the east side did not start until nov 20.

They didnt say anything about closing late archery
I understand that, it was brought up on another thread.

Just think how much better Mule Deer season would be if you had a couple more days in toward the last of the month

And don't think they don't know that either, thats why they end it so early. We used to not even head over until Oct. 31st. for the general, now they make you pay extra money to do that. I'm surprised they don;t make us purchase seperate licenses, one for general and one for late, they would increase their revenue even more.
-
Also just think how many years it took to recover from the last time they extended the season to late October, with early snow and rut conditions. There was a slaughter.
-
bad bad bad..........let them have bread and circuses :bdid:
-
our season over hear is always open till the end of the month anyway. but i will say a couple days later always makes a difference. This years rotation seemed a couple of days earlier than normal.
-
I always see legal bucks during the first few days of elk season, but I don't know if its such a good idea to move it back.
-
hmmm... wonder if they are doing that to put a week break between muzzleloader season and modern rifle.

Bone wasn't that because they also had the youth hunt that year?
I can't remember the last time I hunted past Halloween? Though I know we use to.
-
THey had the general go one extra week and the bucks were hammered. Whiped out a whole age class. There had been early weather and they were all down. Then the late season tag guys came along and there wasn't much left, but they got the rest. Obviously a few of us were still successful the years following, but more for local knowlegde than for anything. THere just wasn't the bucks. Last year, the bucks were finally starting to show up again as they were now 4 and 5 year olds. This year they really made a showing and for the first time since that hunt there was a good population of older bucks running around out there, especailly out of the wolf corridor. I am speaking SOLEY of the METHOW.

Sounds like a tag sale ploy by WDFW!!!!!! :twocents:

I think I remeber what you are talking about bone! I killed my first buck on a winter migration route in rifle season!! :yike:

That info kind of makes you take a heart check. I have always wanted the general rifle to be moved back to late October and first week November. But if the outcome is that dramatic, then working harder in mid October does not seem as bad as originally thought. Some times less is better.
-
I was told once that it would always open the second saturday of october unless there was not enough days to get the muzzle loader season in first. But after reading what I just wrote then it would always open on the second saturday.
Anyway i'll bet it opens on the 10th.

tentative posted dates for East. Wa
Whitetail Oct. 17-30
Mule deer Oct. 17-25
-
i dont think its any conspiracy, its just the way the dates landed! IMHO
-
It doesn't make much sense, especially with the WDFW biologists talking about closing down a lot of late archery hunts because of high kill #'s (which is bulls---). Why would they push a modern season later...the WDFW doesn't want anyone to actually kill anything! Do they????
-
>:( >:( My hunting partners and I already scheduled our vacations for the week of the 10th. This burns me big time!!!! Why the Hell cant they post the seasons before the first of January????? :bash: :bash: :mor:
Can anyone confirm this as "set in stone?"
How will this effect the modern elk season? Will they move that back as well or will they run deer season right through elk season?
-
Here is the past openers for modern rifle.
Openers modern deer
2003 Oct 11th
2004 Oct 16th
2005 Oct 15th
2006 Oct 14th
2007 Oct 13th
2008 Oct 11th

Yes it is "set in stone." Sorry to say but you can't blame the WDFW for this. If you would have called them before you put in for your vacation time, I would bet they would have told you opening of deer is the 17th. The season was not moved back a week as the title of this thread implies. If you read the entire thread you would have seen this post:
Deer season will open on the 17th of October. Its always the Saturday after the tenth and when the tenth is on the Saturday, it bumps to the next weekend.
And this:
