So I've been throwing around the idea of getting a new pistol.
Model/brand not that important.
For some reason I keep looking at a 5.7 something about it peeks my interest.
But then a 40 or 9 are of course way more common.
The purpose of this gun would be multi use (target/security) but really a "get home" gun. In the event of a crisis.
Anyone have input or other ideas?

Get whatever you want! Outcomes are pretty similar for any caliber, shoot someone with anything and MOST of the time it stops the attack.

I think a wound from a 5.7 would look like a small pepperoni pizza!

5.7s are really nice. Not much recoil and pretty accurate--even at long range. They hold a good amount of ammo. Downsides are expensive, .gov has them and the ammo pretty high on their ban list, ammo can be tough to get.
A guy I know has one and it is a ton of fun--rips up water bottles way worse than .45/9mm and can hit bottles/cans fairly reliably at 100 yds.

:chuckle: I have a couple and use one as my every day sidearm, the would channel is nothing to ignore. ;)

And, the fact that they hold twenty rounds is always nice, too.
Also, ammo is pretty reasonable as well.
It doesn't seem like that big of a deal until you shoot something with a large capacity mag and you get used to it. At first my PMR30 seems like it just keeps going and going before it locks open but after you shoot it awhile I don't notice it that much until I shoot something with only a 10 rnd mag. You zip through those 10 really fast and when that slide locks open your left thinking, it's out already. lol
The FN five seven is another that's definitely on my short list of must haves!

I would go 9mm or 45. Most common calibers. 9mm fed decent ammo is nearly as potent as 45. Ammo is cheep, readily available and if you go glock 1911 or springfeild you ca. Purchase those carbine uppers.

Why limit yourself to 20 rds with the 5.7? Mine wear the 30 rd clips.

.45 ACP is fun to shoot, easy to reload, and has no equal as a self-defense round !!!
-
.45 is my round for carry cause I want see instant stoppage of nuerons. If its a punk ass banger! Very interested in 5.7 so they can see their insides and a little time to dwell! :twocents:

Honestly I'm still up in the air.
I haven't had time to get to a gun store yet to check out price's and availability of ammo, but I do think I've narrowed down to a 40 or the 5.7
I already got a .45 so no need to pick another one up

Plenty of factory 5.7 ammo on the shelves at your typical gun stores, Cabelas, Bass Pro, Sportco, Sportsmans etc, maybe not Walmart. :chuckle:
