Haven't rifle hunted since 2007 so decided to try it again since I had bought a new .300 last summer. Drew a palouse tag so planned on being fairly picky during general season. But I like to kill deer..... I Google earthed some local areas trying to get away from people into some rugged country. Picked a spot and headed in with a good friend this morning. Got to the top of the 1st draw and glasses a bit to find nothing. Was a little upset we hadn't seen any tracks or scat. Took a break from glassing and looked down to see a buck coming out of the timber. I could see he was a big 2 but then he went into some brush and could hear him rubbing. We got a little closer and he came out and bedded down. Put the spotting scope on him and saw eye guards. Now what. I wasn't gonna shoot him but he was so pretty and the hunt itself was so perfect. We got a little closer not really caring if he spooked and set up. I decided to shoot him, and save money by not heading east next month. 150 yds he stepped up broadside and the .300 spoke! Steep nasty country sent him tumbling down the hill where he stopped on a log. Great morning with a great friend!(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2F94d8edd378b5b0bfeb79fa28490dbcc4.jpg&hash=c756a5685cdc6848b6f044197b3a8ef28c559fd5)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2F009abf3c08f0ccb943154f21eefaa659.jpg&hash=a752c88f4050988dd89b0cb88a37e675740e3abe)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2F731ea2d0e702e9100c09a8db24196861.jpg&hash=7422006349fb80fc10222ec1b13563fd35108bea)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2F8a3029018b407602b1d0228a906d60c5.jpg&hash=6cc4620e10d3318539666533b83057f6e1a31553)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2F3435d57c7d49d89c30c5a2890b6df1c7.jpg&hash=b79fd31aee5f61891cd3c5d87387010e71789aab)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2Fc5f2fbb6dc38c2caa7a9ad6f23ae64bb.jpg&hash=9862e7f4b12db420084508d917a20feb3f9df613)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F18%2Faff2ad5f5db8c3c3e1989a2560ee27fb.jpg&hash=ed6c7c792c64dfcc82da3bb3162bfa0bf5b1a889)

Looks like a great hunt in some beautiful country! Way to go!
-
Nice goin'.....
-
Looks like a blast, congrats!!
-
Nicely done! "Settling" for a deer like that makes me feel rather poorly about settling for a young doe with my multi-season tag!
-
Nice buck. Love his frame!
-
Nice buck. Looks like he had a big body

Nice buck buster!

Muley or benchleg? His tail looks strange to me. :dunno: nice buck either way

Gotta be benchleg.. You see deer that look more muley and some with more blacktail characteristics.

Did he have a typical Muley rope tail? The first pic looks like he's got a thin blacktail tail.

It was about 50/50 muley blacktail but solid colored but not full bushy like a blacktail

Awesome. I've seen a few like that. Cool deer

Even with a hole like this I didn't lose any meat!(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F19%2Fd3f3b8134a4501d923ff9c7a7ae25dbc.jpg&hash=6aafc32611936b2f0a9002b5d674110a91ae2787)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F10%2F19%2F3d6f140bc7a3ab8fb3febd2d1f3da25b.jpg&hash=020245d7589280d986cae81858705b44c93ef395)

Works great  I'm thinking of tryingnto add some hooks to hang the quarters in it instead of lay them.

Awesome man, looked like it was a lot of fun!
-
Nice job! Love the photos. Looks like a heck of a pack out.
-
What kind of pack is that? Congrats on filling your tag too.

Its a mystery ranch metcalf
-
That's the pack I'm saving my pennies for :) Congrats again!

Okay, so I need to make a comment on an observation, call me Mr. Mom if you want, but I think you should hang some orange off the back of your pack. Would hate for some dingdong to make a life changing mistake... maybe for future hunts. Just a suggestion.

I thought the same thing, but was not a single person around so wasn't worried. I bought a neat little orange bag with a drawstring that will be perfect for that the next day.

Awesome! That is a pretty sweet setup.

Nice job man
