Buck down

Haven't rifle hunted since 2007 so decided to try it again since I had bought a new .300 last summer. Drew a palouse tag so planned on being fairly picky during general season. But I like to kill deer..... I Google earthed some local areas trying to get away from people into some rugged country. Picked a spot and headed in with a good friend this morning. Got to the top of the 1st draw and glasses a bit to find nothing. Was a little upset we hadn't seen any tracks or scat. Took a break from glassing and looked down to see a buck coming out of the timber. I could see he was a big 2 but then he went into some brush and could hear him rubbing. We got a little closer and he came out and bedded down. Put the spotting scope on him and saw eye guards. Now what. I wasn't gonna shoot him but he was so pretty and the hunt itself was so perfect. We got a little closer not really caring if he spooked and set up. I decided to shoot him, and save money by not heading east next month. 150 yds he stepped up broadside and the .300 spoke! Steep nasty country sent him tumbling down the hill where he stopped on a log. Great morning with a great friend!

Nicely done! "Settling" for a deer like that makes me feel rather poorly about settling for a young doe with my multi-season tag!

Gotta be benchleg.. You see deer that look more muley and some with more blacktail characteristics.
