Martin?
-
my guess would be Martin as well.
-
Phoenix rising. Well done.
-
Yeah, they are doing some good things! I like the new motto/catch phrase. The fire is out - The passion still burns
Hope the "Me" has been removed from E.O. and replaced with the proper C. That was the only thing stopping me from getting behind the new company this past year. Will be nice to have a great NW bow company again. Especially since the other one is about to get burned!

I'm I hearing the fall of bowtech? (short fall)

I'm I hearing the fall of bowtech? (short fall)
Enquiring minds just want to know: What is it with the obsession about Bowtech? I only know the smallest bit about bows, and nothing of the various firms. But I often see comments disparaging Bowtech. Perhaps a separate thread is required, but for the sake of those who are not in the know, could you (you all) briefly explain the issue(s)?
And I might as well ask why the previous "great NW bow company" no longer is.
-
Bowtechs are great bows. D rock just hates on them cause he shoots some other over priced brand and like most archers, he thinks the gear he uses is the only gear that works.
And Martin the bow company burned down awhile back. Sounds like they are rebuilding.

Do a search of broken bows, or limbs and you will find more info/pics of broken Bowtechs than any other brand. Ill let these do the talking. I only searched for less then two minutes.

I shoot a lot of shoots every year and have seen more bowtech walk off a course in pieces than all other bows combined. Yeah they do shoot good I'll give them that but I'll never buy one.

OK, I think I get it. So it is an issue of product quality, right (not design or engineering, but manufacturing)? Thanks for the insights, all.

That's it. It like the Chevy vs ford debate. We all know Chevy is better but people still buy Ford's.

I drive a Ford and shoot a Bowtech. :dunno: :chuckle:

Makes sense.

D-Rock you're on a roll :chuckle:

I have a Ford, a Chevy, a Dodge and a Nissan in the driveway. Guess my product loyalty sucks! :chuckle:
I expect Bowtech could see fewer failures if they chose to make super heavy limbs and sit at the bottom of the performance scale. ;) ;)
Martin last year started putting a copy of Bear Archery's limb on their bows. That was a good move as previous to that they were beyond Bowtech failure without the performance. Mathews also had a long history of failures and for the most part fixed that in the past few years. Over the past 8 years PSE has been rather durable with performance in spades. But at one point in time they were explosive - literally. Hoyt has had their tuning and limb pocket issues too. So darn near everyone has had their ups and downs. Just wait another couple years and someone different will have problems. When you try to push the performance envelope and make things profitable at the same time...that's going to happen once in awhile. No brand has immunity from troubles and failures.
To the topic of this thread...
I think Martin has been making great strides to become a contender lately. And from what little I have seen of 2016 teasers it looks like that continues. I'm excited for them. The Martin employees have got to be happy as they rise from the ashes. The companies future looks pretty darn good! And the product development outstanding

My Bear Attitude Bow just got that much better after looking at those photos ;)

Super durable, 3.7#, 310 IBO, 7.25 brace, great geometry - makes that bow a real easy shooter. Possibly the easiest bow to shoot well in recent years. And at "Under $300"...GTFO!!! It has one of the uglier limbs ever made, but I still use that limb on one of my favorite bows that I am still hunting with. That's three times the bow I used to tag the majority of my animals. And that's half the price I paid even back then. What's not to like about that?

I'm going to be looking at some trad bows for next elk season.

Good on you for giving those elk a bit of a chance. Pretty sure you are going to be addicted to it if you try it....that's why I haven't yet, afraid I will get obsessed.

not sure yet. A guy north of me does some bow building classes. How sweet would it be to kill an elk with a now you built.

It's pretty cool! On the down side...If you miss there really is no one to blame but yourself :chuckle:
Well, I guess there is always the broadhead and arrow mfg to blame. You do shoot GoldTip after all. :o

I used to shoot Hoyt and in 2009 we had to move to Hawaii so I traded it for more scuba gear :). When we moved back to Washington last year I got back into archery and I couldn't justify the price on the new bows (couldn't justify it to my wife) so given the specs I read from Bear, the convenience of a large outdoor retail store, and being left handed and having limited in stock options, it made sense for me to get it. Plus the price made my wife happy lol.
A solid year of target shooting and getting back into it and I am good to go... except I have haven't been close enough to sink an arrow in a blacktail like you pros, but I hope to change that this year. Blacktail are the only species I haven't successfully tagged... I will run to the eastside if push comes to shove and I strike out on blacktail during the late season, again.
Sorry didn't mean to derail...

That would be awesome! Of course, I would just like to kill an elk lol.

I've seen a couple sneak peaks of the now on Facebook but haven't seen a full picture of the bow yet.
-
Yeah they all break d rock. Never the other brands... I've had two bowtech in eight years both still function un broken.
One guy I know goes threw Martin limbs like water though. Pantera something. Cost him a lot and snap! every year. One year twice.

Comparing todays Martin to ones just three years ago isn't a fair comparison. Completely different limb design. Sort of like comparing todays CPX Bowtech to those early Club and Hinge Bowtech exploders. The new Martin limb should be comparable to the newer crazy good Bear limb. Its exactly what we had intended to do had we won the right to purchase Martin. I haven't agreed with everything the new ownership has done, but they got it right with the new limb!

Some pics. I'm disappointed.

in what?

It should eliminate the normal issues of cam lean in a Binary. But I don't care much for that type of yoke donut. Dealt with those on the Monster cam and making strings for them is a PITA. Seems as though they added a little more room in the heal position on the bridged riser. If true that makes a super improvement. Adding that Mathews type riser hook for the additional dampener looks unnecessary. But screwing up a perfectly nice looking riser with something funky is sort of a Martin tradition...isn't it? :o
With that limb and dual track binary I expected more speed for 6.5" brace height. If speeds were going to be run of the mill I would like to have seen them keep 7". :dunno: Myself, I'd rather have a 7-7.25" 325fps bow than a 6.5" 333 bow. Might be a decent trade off for D-Rock at 27" though.
Definitely headed in the right direction! Important to realize this is just the beginning of a new Martin. Future looks exciting. Well, exciting until you see how ugly the carbon riser bows are! :chuckle: Man, those are not so pretty.
-
Carbon bow for $499.

Hoyts only work from tree stands :chuckle:
Not true, i shot my deer from a blind with mine. :sry:
-
Yeah the dampeners if that's what those are are ridiculous. I'll stick with my bowtech.
-
I have no manufacturer allegiances. I have a Diamond from before they were bought out, and this year, I decided it was time to step up to a newer, faster bow. I did a lot of research, and yes, I saw the Bowtech limb problems. That just told me to stay away from laminated limbs!
After a lot of research, I was able to buy a Bowtech Carbon Knight (no longer in production, but I found some "leftovers") for about 480. This bow is as fast and lighter than the Hoyt Carbon Spyder, which costs $1,600. The Bowtech has an adjustable draw length that doesn't require a bow press, and is just an all around good value. My buddy who bought the Hoyt was kicking himself after he saw my Bowtech and realized it cost less than half of his bow.
The Hoyt is a fine bow, as are many other makes. It's just like anything else, Remmington vs. Winchester, Ford vs. Chevy, blondes vs. brunettes, if you look hard enough, you can find flaws in anything you want to disparage. I certianly recommend Bowtech, but I don't know enough about any other bow to offer pros and cons from personal experience.
-
Bowtech's limb issues have been with only one laminated limb. All the rest have been C&H limbs like you have on the Knight.
