Let me begin by giving a heartfelt shout out to some great people on this site. Site members known as Slayerz, Huntnnw, Campmeat, Caseknife, Sagerat 1, and NWBrew you guys ROCK! Each one of you guys contributed some form of information that was extremely helpful and started her on the path to a fun and successful hunt. Myself, my brother, and my wife got to camp the day before the opener and after setting up camp we rushed out to retrieve camera SD cards. They revealed a couple dandy bulls, but after a day and a half my wife gave a pass to a one horned bull that was begging to be shot. Good Karma came to her one hour before dark on the 2nd day. she saw a place she liked and simply elected to still hunt it that evening. My brother and I left her there and each set out on separate roads to look and listen for a bull. I was about a half mile away and my brother had the truck with him a good distance further than that. As she watched a steep draw (with no road in the bottom) a decent bull appeared. Bless her heart, she patiently waited and watched the bull travel from 250 yards deep in the draw all the way to 15 yards standing in the road next to her. I heard 2 shots followed by a radio transmission " Joe you better get over hear. " I frantically asked for an update, but there was silence on the radio as she was reloading. 2 more shots and a radio transmission " I've got 4 shots into him and he wont go down." With no road in the draw and an hour of daylight left I thought this was gonna be a rough night. As my brother ran for the truck and I ran toward my wife, she gets on the radio as says, "he's down." I replied, "Can you see him?" She replied, "well yeah, he's only 5 yards off the road." Needless to say, I went from potentially the worst night of my life, to one of the greatest with that radio transmission. He's just shy of 40 inches, and yes there are bigger ones out there, but she's happy with the one she got and that's all that matters. Thanks for all the help and support that you guys provided. Even though my brother and I were not there to see it all go down, we had a blast and am very proud of her pulling it off by herself. I wish everyone could get the chance to go on one of these hunts.
Thanks again! Joe and Teddy
