Title: Best turkey choke I've found.
Post by: Gutpile on January 19, 2009, 04:25:11 PM
Just wanted to recommend Indian Creek chokes. The best choke I have used prior to it was a Comp-n-choke but the Indian creek blows it away. The Comp-n-choke was fine but there are voids in the pattern.

I highly recommend you consider giving them a try. Shot a Tom this spring at exactly 45 yards and it didn't even quiver.

Here's a pattern for you. This was at 42 yards. BPS 3 1/2"  2 1/4 oz. #6 Federal flight control. 246 on paper 17 in vitals. Not bad for that distance. All of the targets say 40 yards but they were indeed 42.

Anyways, not many people know about these so I like to let folks know.

Here;s how it did with some other shotshells.
Winchester

Kent

Federal Hi Velocity Flight Control #6

Any one of these would be acceptable but obviously I'm sticking with the 1st. Actually the Kent was lacking but it'd work in a pinch. It actually patterned well with the C-N-C.

Good to see your doing your homework!   That reminds me that I need to get after that soon.

Did you try anything other than 6's ?

Whats the cost of that choke?
I use the undertaker with my 870's coupled with Fed #4

It's about $70.00. It'll blow the undertaker away. Thats what I used to shoot when I first started turkey hunting and it's not even close.

I shot larger shot with the C-N-C but the smaller shot always patterned better for me.

I also patterned some of the non tox stuff with the Indian creek but results were not very impressive.

I did notice larger shot performed better with the undertaker though. Back then I shot #4's. My friend has a Nova and he shot #4's with the undertaker but he's since switched to a Jellyhead and #6 Hevi 13.

Don't have any pics, but that is very comparable to the Jellyhead I use on my Benelli SBE. Between 16-17 in the vitals at 40 with Winchester #6's. And it is hard to ask for anything more than that. But my younger brother shoots an 870 with the RemChoke and 3.5" Winchester #5's...blows anything away that I've ever seen, period. This is the only pic I have on digital, and by far the worst, but ever gobbler has shot since the transition to 12 gauge the head is a clotted, bloody, dripping mess. It is IMPRESSIVE.

Gutpile, your sure doing a fine job keeping HS in business  :chuckle:
I have a pretty good supply of them from getting donations, and winning them during raffles and such.
