Title: 655 Anderson Island Any Deer
Post by: cowboycraig on November 02, 2015, 02:38:20 PM
I see that late season is any deer in GMU 655. Has anyone ever hunted this little island?

There are deer there, access is an issue.

Was looking on Google Earth and seems like there isn't a lot of space to hunt. Maybe if you live there and have property?

Unless you know someone there you wont be able to hunt. There are a tone of people there who detest hunters as well

Good news - half the people there can't stand the deer eating their roses and would gladly see the population thinned out.
Bad news - the other half of the people there can't stand the thought of a single deer being harmed because they are like pets.
Access is a serious issue and if you manage to get access and the animal makes it to the next property after your shot then you run the risk of talking with the wrong 50% of the population to get your animal. I've looked at the little islands in that area a couple of times and talked to some people that would love to let me at it with a bow, but I haven't been able to justify the effort and risk. Just my 2 cents.

1. Access is tough especially since a large portion of the Island is closed to hunting.
2. The ferry is a pain to deal with.
3. There are no hotels or campgrounds to stay at.
4. Islanders are a strange group of people.

Hunting out there is just a hassle unless you have a friend with some real estate.
