Heres a good public land archery bull I mounted for a friend of mine. Its a Pedestal mount without the pedestal. The tightwad didnt want to pay for the cabinet so hes building his own :chuckle: For those of you who like detail, here you go. For those that dont like detail you probably wont like it. Its a head up sniffing. The bull was shot in the peak of the rut in some hot weather so I envisioned him showing the veins in his face as if he just came kicking butt into a hot cow call , now hes pumped and looking for her!! Enjoy!

Was hoping you'd post this one...saw it in progress. Nicely finished!!
-
Thanks man! I'll be posting that other pedestal in a few days also. That wide bull from up north !
-
thats a beautiful mount pedistal or not it looks like it;s alive and ready. I enjoy seeing your work it;s top of the line to me.
-
Nice work. I like the facial work, brings him to life.
-
Just out of curiosity how much is it for that mount?
-
The price depends on the base, there is alot of options with the base itself, wether or not you want a little habitat etc.. That mount without a base would run $1050.00 or so.
-
That's a great looking mount. Love the detail of the early capes. Nice!

Thanks for the replies!

You do an incredible job on elk. I hope mine turns out only half as good. What frame do you use when mounting these big pedestals in your shop?
-
Good looking elk Charlie :chuckle:

I use a heavy duty mounting stand Bone, those peds have a block of wood in the back so you can sscrew them to the stand like a normal shoulder mount.

Yours WILL turn out better than that one , trust me ;) Your bull could be on a crapy mount and look good, no ones gona look at the maount anyway, they'll be looking at the horns :chuckle:

Great work Charlie! I'm just curious but did you ever get pics/story into a mag for your bull or not???
Michael

Not yet man. I started my story but havent finished it yet.

You need to get that story into Eastmans and win a pair of Swarovskis. Then you can sell tour other pair to me. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Wish my pictures were good enough for the cover. :bash:

hey bucklucky i was wondering how you make the facial detail pop out like the viens im kinda new to the big game stuff, i know that you can by the pre made bodies that have the facial details but i didnt think that htey stood out that much is that a injecter like with birds feet or clay? pm me if you want to, thanks
-
All the detail is done with a rifflers wrasp , wood wrasps, saw, some times a knife to get started. Epoxie sculpt is also used on the face, and really good hide paste. There is also alot of facial mods that will go into the mount also. Depends on the form and heads being used. Use your imagination and pay close attention when caping critters. Hint: When caping keep all the muscle on the head itself and not the cape, the eyes are the hardest but if you take your time you will learn alot about the head itself.

didnt like it till i read what you said, now it makes sense to me. looks good, cant wait to see what that blacktail is gonna look like
-
thanks im going to practice with my elk from this last year. i think that im going to practice on a form that i have laying around here to what i want it to look like. there are some that just people over do the detail work and it just dosent look right, im no hard nose when it comes to detail but i want it to look right and that elk you get some kudos points with me cuase that thing is just perfect. cant wait to see some of your others do you have any deer pics or other elk pics that have good detail that i can refrence from?
-
Truthfully , use live picture for referance not someone elses work. My work is far from perfect. I tend to overdue some things for eye apeal. You can look back in the taxidermy section and see some other mounts I have posted the past couple of years. Live still pictures of the critter you going to mount is the best referance you can have besides the live animal in your barn yard :chuckle:. Its hard to find the perfect referance sometimes especially on veins on the face. They just dont show very often, or if they do its just slight. My veining on that mount is over done . Its not correct. I could tear that mount apart with everything that is wrong if you want me to ;) Thats the best way to learn and get better. The wrinkles in the neck are perfect though . I have a long way to go to get where I want to be .
-
that is true though with anybody that respects there mounts and the hardwork that they stick into them, your neck is good but i truley like the way that you did the viens. though you may not like them and they are over done a little that still turned out to be a great piece of worksmans ship. :) ;)

Nice bro!
-
looks great charlie.
-
You got it all going on, for sure! I would be a proud owner of that mount. Fabulous work.
-
