I'd like to hear more of WA sheriffs telling their citizens this. The Co.s that really need it, though, have sheriffs supporting gun control; King and Pierce.

Idaho’s enhanced concealed weapons permit is recognized in 35 states, but it also requires firing 100 rounds on the gun range and classroom time with a portion of the course being dedicated to the use of deadly force.
The Gem state adheres to the “Castle Law,” meaning your home is your castle and you can defend it if you believe that your life or the lives of your family are in imminent danger.
“You can defend yourself, but if you take a human life, there will be consequences, and there will be an investigation,” Nielsen said.
Nielsen said gun owners are also responsible for safe storage of weapons in the home.
Seems logical and acceptable to me!!!

"...and the trusting communities tend to leave doors unlocked and keys in cars."
People in my small town make fun of me for keeping everything locked, all the time, but I think it is only prudent. Locks are the first line of defense... and .40 S&W is my personal second line of defense (locked up in a keypad-operated pistol safe that I can open in about four seconds).

I locked in small town NH and I lock here in Vancouver. It's like the difference between walking down a dark alley or going an extra half a block to take a lighted street. Avoid danger always until you have no choice but to confront it and then be prepared and trained to do so.

20 years ago Sheriff Gary Edwards of Thurston county did an article/interview for the Daily O(zero) he said if you see a Cougar in your yard you are in danger :yike:you can kill it, he also said if you see some suspicious type, and become in fear of harm, your life or anothers, you are in danger. :yike:
He said at times he had 2 or 3 deputies on duty for the entire county, he can't protect you. So you must protect yourself.
The Olympian tried to fry him, he won the next two elections. :chuckle:

We had an "incident" where a homeowner shot (wounded) an intruder and held at gunpoint for authorities to arrive.
When asked about what the homeowner should have done different the sheriff replied "shot sooner, shot more, and used better ammunition"
