I ended up getting a pretty nice bull on Sat. 1 shot 40 yards, 300 win w/ a 168 grn Barnes TSX. Went about 30 yards and piled up. Tacoma Crk drainage south of Calispell Pk. Trying to get some clarification on scoring but my buddy and I did a rough score on him and he grossed out at over 170. If we're doing it right he should net close to 160.

Great moose and great picture! Good job.
-
Well done, What unit did you end up getting him in?
-
WAY TO GO!!
doesn't look like you got "my bull"
thats an awesome looking bull. congrats.
-
Bitchin! Grats on the once in a lifetime hunt. ;)
-
Nice looking bull. Is that a WA bull or an ID bull? I didn't think the WA moose season was open just yet.
-
wa bull...he's(was) the raffle tag holder.
-
Probably not nearly a 170 bull, moose are pretty tough to score, but who the heck cares. Very nice moose. Congratulations. He is one heck of a trophy. Well done!
-
Measurements:
43.5 width
21 pts
Left: 7 3/8 cir, 12 7/8 palm width, 37 1/2 palm length
Right: 6 7/8 cir, 11 1/2 palm width, 29 1/2 palm length
Palm length measurement is what we're not sure about. We followed the B/C instructions right from the book but not sure we understood em completely?
-
Here is what I guessed with Jackelope as my witness. I figured 44 width, 10 measureable points on each side, 7-8 inch bases. I gave you better width of palm, which is where this bull stands out. He has wonderful palm measurements. Where he tanks you is the length, especially on the weak side with the fork. Granted I am only looking at one pic, but the length credit will be for the one side and at this angle its short. Your mass is incredible and nice, but as you have found out you don't get much credit for it. Honestly a very nice bull. If I had your tag I would probably have looked longer but thats easy to say from the cheap seats. He is a GOREOUS bull. I hope you are going to mount him. Please don't take my words at a critique. YOU DID GREAT!

Bone,
met that gentlemen up on the mountain a few weeks back. He definetly passed on alot of Bulls up there. I think he saw more elk then we did too. :'(
Chris, nice BULL. You better be putting that guy on the wall.
-
 Awsome!!
-
Great Bull, congrats. Hopefully this Monday when the general Moose season opens we can find one like that for my huntin partner.
-
Can you email me some of those pics. Cant access the website at work and want to show the guys. Great Moose again!!! Ill be putting in for that raffle from here on out, I have 6 points for the special moose permit, maybe next year!

"Please don't take my words at a critique."
Boneaddict,
NOT at all man. I'm very happy with the critter regardless of his score and what not. And believe me, it has crossed my mind about taking 1 too soon and not waiting until later. He just clearly out-classed everything I'd seen so far that I couldn't pass on him.
Question fer ya.... based on the measurements I gave, doesn't that gross 170+? Or did my buddy and I totally butcher the B&C instructions? We were probably 5 beers into the evening when we were reading em :chuckle:
-
And yes, to all who asked.... he is going on the wall.
-
Nice Bull you should be proud!!! Congrats
-
Congrats on the nice buill, thanks for posting the picture of it!!!
-
Not at all....I think you have the jist just fine. I think I had in my mind net not gross. I was spending more time staring at the picture instead of the words. He is a great moose. Field judging one is indeed a tough deal, then putting tape to one is even harder. It has to do with parallel and perpendicular lines, etc. etc. Shrinkage etc. Who cares, thats a gorgeous animal. I hear you on your decision. Thats what I had elk hunting. I probably could have done better, but no way was I going to pass that particular animal up. I hope you have a big house. them babies take up alot of space. I'm glad you are going to mount him. I can't tell you how often I sit and stare at mine and rethink the hunt process. Awesome job!
-
Great bull, conflatulations!!!
I use to hunt the Tacoma Creek area for late whities and almost always ran into swamp donkeys. Got a couple of decent bucks there as well.
Good job man! I am jealous!
-
Good work Intruder, I would have shot him too, no questions asked.
-
Tremendous bull. He's got great width in the palms.
Did you call him in? If not, did you notice any rut action?
-
SWEAT... That is one great looking bull. Congrats!
-
Thats a BEAUTIFUL beast Sir!
Congrats!
-
Good job you held out longer than most would have and passed a couple nice bulls.
P.S. I think you were on more elk than we were. Congrats gil
-
Awesome trophy! Congrats.
-
Great trophy. I bet he looked tremendous walking through the woods. The mass and bulkiness of him is great.
On the whole scoring issue...I really don't agree much with the scoring system for moose. But then, I don't agree with the scoring system on mule deer and most other animals because of deductions and so on. Honestly, I wouldn't pay B&C to put my name in a book anyway. If it was free, then maybe. I think if every trophy was in there it would be a good tool to look at trends in trophies and where they are being taken. It's just not why I hunt. I was interested in learning about the scoring system but after scoring my recent moose and looking over trophies and what they score, it seems ridiculous. Of course I'm now being critical and can't offer any suggestions to make the scoring better. Maybe this should be a topic in and of its own, on scoring moose and potential suggestions for a better system...
-
That's one sweet bull. While it doesn't help the score, I personally prefer the look of boxy, vertical racks like this. The width of the palms and number of points up top are awesome. If you're into scores, this guy might be a good candidate for SCI, which takes the gross score and includes tine length. More bone = better score. My recollection is that SCI also doubles the length and width of the palms...given the palm width, I think that would also help here.
-
Interesting. I've never thought too much about scoring 1 way or the other. Haven't killed enough big stuff to worry too much :chuckle: I just use it more as a general frame of reference.
Isn't the European system based mostly on mass... it's simple discplacement in a water tank? I think B&C is a little to into symmetry. There are a lot of critters that I've seen that aren't great scorers (in B&C) that I prefer over ones that score real well.
I think the bottom line is I like it.... right?
-
great bull
nets are for fish.
it's all about gross if you're gonna worry about score.
my .02
-
Thats exactly right Intruder!
I also agree with Pope. I think that BC scoring on moose is not very good. I've seen dandy moose that wouldn't score worth crap and smaller ones that do better. Like I said, who cares, that is a nice moose.
edit......Good one Jack :chuckle:

Absofrigginlutely...and regardless of the scores, pretty sure we all like it too. You dun good.
I've never had a raffle or governor's tag. I plan to win the lottery soon, but for some odd reason it hasn't happened yet. :chuckle: Not sure about you, but with that tag I bet I'd feel the pressure to take one that was as good or better than what I could take with a regular permit tag. But I haven't seen pics of any WA bull I'd take over yours.
-
Beautiful Bull Intruder. That tag would burn a whole through my pocket. You would have had to duct tape my release finger to my wrist or I would end up with a 30 ". :chuckle:
-
Nothing eats better than moose.
-
I just got the official score on my moose: Net was 159.3 Gross was 164.7. So it officially makes the B/C books and sits at 5th all time in the WA. book.
-
Congrats! That is a beautiful bull!
