Title: Recomended recurve for newb
Post by: timberghost72 on November 20, 2015, 07:01:22 PM: I'm wanting to get a bow and want a recurve. I've shot a little with compound bows and less with recurves, basically once, and loved it. I went to Cabelas to see what they have and didn't get much help. They gave me a very tall bow at a 40# pull to try out. It was ok but I wanted to get some first hand recomendations here since I have nothing to compare that to.

My spec's
I'm 5'7"
Measured draw length is 26"
I'm looking for a budget bow (but not junk) and willing to go a bit higher if needed.

So what should I be shopping for/looking at?

I forgot to add, this will be mostly for target shooting in the back yard. If I decide to archery hunt then I would upgrade if needed.

Post by: Tree Killer on November 21, 2015, 12:36:27 PM: Take a look at the Samick Sage. I don't own one, but know several people that do and they love them. They're now a top of the line custom bow by any means, but will get you started. 40-45 lbs is plenty of bow for a target bow.

What other things should I be thinking about when purchacing one of these?

Post by: dreamunelk on November 21, 2015, 03:23:34 PM: Samick is a great entry level and beyond bow. I have a 50# that with my short draw length is closer to 45#. Good bow for working on form. Get a take down and you can get higher poundage limbs.

Thats a great offer but unfortunately I can't make that. I may be down there Friday though at my parents place.

You'll probably need a glove or tab. I prefer Cordovan Leather tabs or gloves, get a better release..

I've been meaning to get up there to look at bows. Never been there and hear good things about them.

Was that you shooting 60 yards off the platform on #2 @ silver arrow last Sunday evening? A guy told me he was shooting a sage and drilled the 10 ring.

Check out the Tradtech Titan, Titan II, etc.

ILF compatible limb sockets, rounded rest, all the holes needed to add on every gadget a spaceman could want. And it's a magnesium riser, super lightweight. Had one I used as a keep in the rig bow and killed a number of bunnies and squirrels and 1 hog. Shot a 285 round of 30- 3D with it too. Lovely bow for the price. I need another to pack along when my selfbow is too bulky.

Post by: HankC on January 04, 2016, 07:04:23 PM: Are you still looking for a bow? I was thinking about selling my Bear Bruin II recurve (58" #50) with a shooting glove and a 6-arrow quiver from 3riversarchery for $125. Can't go wrong with a Bear for traditional archery.
