Title: 2015/2016 Duck & Goose Hunt Pictures
Post by: EWUEAGLESHUNTER on November 24, 2015, 08:41:36 PM
Been noticing more and more posts going up for good hunts this season. I thought a general thread would be nice.

I decided to skip out of work early today. I just had one of those feelings my spot with the current conditions would be hot. Two man limit in 1 hour. Still working on my dogs photogenics, this will be her first full season. Hopefully by the end of the season she will be accustomed to taking pictures with limits.  8)

Ended up with a fun hunt with the wife today. Together ended the day with 14 ducks and 1 goose between the two of us. The wife finished the duck hunt with a triple shooting an over under shotgun.... Pretty impressive, considering most guys get excited when they shoot a triple with 3 shells. Overall great day!

You guys are right, I wasn't aiming for the "brown duck" but it went down anyways. I shouldn't call it a limit. I made a mistake but I'm not going to leave it out in the field. My bad.

Today my dog found three cripples that someone else must not have been able to find. They were all in different spots. He seems to find cripples almost every time we go out.

That's a good looking dog you have GSP. Also Hecto, I had that happen once, but chose not to post the picture. :bdid: But I did hunt with a guy one time that showed me where he barried his extra hen one afternoon at our hunting spot the previous time he went out.... So I am glad you didn't do that haha.

Maybe that would have been the best choice... I've never got more than 2 in a day before so I'm just super excited. Have to make sure I'm more careful next time. Shucks what happens if you get a double on the number 7 duck, do you leave it behind? Of course not.

Or you only drop one bird and not try for the double...???

One snow and a banded dark goose from Summer Lake. (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F12%2F05%2F008375db562fd444f753cfada8894232.jpg&hash=03dba15dc7c344d67f4d059b4b0e16698d8292b1)

Partner and I scraped up a couple limits. Pic of mine. Very tough day shooting as the birds didn't want to decoy, just buzz us at mach 2 then flare up hard and keep going. That 25 shell limit at Nisqually can sure make it tough on a guy like me.

You know we actually did get a ruddy hen a few weeks back in the same area so I can definitely say it wasn't quite the same bird. Here is the only close up I took of this one, shows the ring on the bill sort of from this angle :)

Edit to add: they do seem rare around western Washington though, even the game warden took a picture of it just to take back with him. Odd indeed!

Since the snow and freezing temps day and night the birds around Moses Lake have been decreasing in numbers quickly. Got skunked for the first time this year yesterday. But have still had some decent success up to yesterday.

That blue bill is awesome! Got any more pics? Is that a Pintail/Mallard cross?

I looked it over pretty good and everything else looked like a drake mallard.  Just had a blue bill on it.

Awesome hunt today with my wife and dog. I've been extremely grateful/blessed this year to have my wife as my hunting partner. My hunting partner for the last couple years has been battling an inflammatory disease keeping him cooped up all season. Grateful to have a wife who was willing to fill the void!

Dog and I braved the rain and snow this weekend for 2 decent hunts. Should have had 4 geese but my 4th spun out of control and bombed down head first into a guide service set up on the next field over.
