Title: New to the Seattle area
Post by: kelby.swartz on November 29, 2015, 04:16:21 PM
Hello folks, I just moved to Tukwila WA from Pennsylvania.

I don't think I'll get the chance to do any more hunting this year. I got some bowhunting in back home but the move has more or less put the kabash on doing any more this year. I'm looking to get ready for spring turkey, deer and elk next fall.

Looking for advice on how to get started in WA. I have hunted but this is a whole new ball game out here and I don't know anyone to hunt with.

I understand that I need to take a hunters' safety course to get a license, so I will be enrolling once the classes open up. What else should I be doing? I have a ton of questions but I don't want to start firing away until I get to know some people. Thanks in advance and take care.

Read our 783 page big game hunting regulation pamphlet and our 200 page small game pamphlet.
Start identifying areas you want to hunt and then go scouting.

You only have to take hunters ed if you were born after 1972 I believe.  As far as hunting goes, I would look at the regs and decide what seasons and methods you are interested in hunting.

There's a useful tool on the Fish and Game site called GoHunt that maps all the game management units and allows you to filter for species etc.

Find the species you want to hunt, and a GMU you can hunt it in and start asking questions.

This forum will be invaluable!

Pick up Boyd Iversons "blacktail trophy tactics 2" and read now. It will save you lots of frustration  since you come from white tail territory. Or only hunt the NE corner of the state where there are wt.
