I have an oilskin that I wore for hunting, they are bulky and heavy,I have Filson coats, goretex coats, but most of the time I go back to my BDU  cotton army shirt that I sprayed with Thompsons wood-canves sealer, its light and has good pockets, iwear a vest and heavy shirtunder,as weather warms vest and shirt go in pack.I have a large closet full of coats I have tried.

My buddy hunts elk in an oilskin duster all the time.  Probably the last thing I'd wear but he likes it.

One guy I hunt with uses a big, heavy oilskin duster.  When he has to go through a big blackberry bramble, he puts the gun inside the jacket and walks backwards through the blackberries.  makes a bit of noise (what doesn't in blackberry or salal, though), but keeps him and his gun from getting all scratched up.
