Cool little animals, used to see them all over the woods, not so much anymore.

Did he stick around or did you just see him the once? We had a doe last year that would come into camp every day around noon. Apparently she read the regs and felt safe! Her name was Doe-reen and she loved mini cinnamon rolls from COSTCO.  :chuckle:

It's a great photo so

However, I can't stand these things.  They kill my trees and the dogs always get into them.  There are so many out where I live.  They get enormous too, like 50 lbs  :yike:

I hear they eat great!
And they come with built-in toothpicks.  Lots of them. ;)

My daughter and I came back to camp so she could take pictures of the sun set and after we put our packs in camp this guy came out of the brush to greet us like our dog. She took some pictures and by the time I got my camera out of the pack he had climbed up the tree by camp. The second night he came into camp after dark and about 1 AM he was climbing up our tarp and tent so I got up and ran him off. We ever saw Him again. Here is another picture of him. We had some other critters in the area but he was the most gracious of all for all trip.

Did he let you pet him? I hear they are friendly. Had a lab that loved them! >:(

I found a stick he did not like. I am not man enough to pet one.

Sorry about your pup. I had a Springer that bit one once and my wife and I had to try and pull out the quills. By morning the dog was ready to go hunting like nothing had happened. We got very lucky. The late elk area we hunt have a few porcupine and they are kind of cool. Any other area and they had better look out. My daughter likes them because they are so tame. 8)
