This was my first year archery hunting.Hunted over 20 days this season and saw tons of shooters, just had trouble closing the gap out in the open country. Decided not to throw in the towel to soon and headed north. I ended up getting him late season at 25 yards with my mathews no-cam at 26.5" and 67lbs, with a grim reaper 1 3/8" mechanical broadhead. He only went about 60 yards after my shot and piled up dead as a wedge after 5 minutes. I normally hunt modern with my family and have shot a doe when I was 11 but this animal being my only buck and bow kill is a memory I will have for ever. What a cool way to end my education at WSU (GO COUGS.) Now its safe to say I am hooked on archery and cant wait till next season. Being that I am normally a Mully hunter I am curious to what this guy would score? I am about to do a European mount on him and hang my arrow through his horns. Just curious to what you whitetail guys think this dude would score? :dunno:
Pics coming soon! :IBCOOL:

Awesome first bow kill!!!! Way to go!!!!! It's addicting......

Very nice buck....( Muley) or mule deer
Or Whitetail!!! Great start for your first.
-
Good shot.
-
He would score a spot on my wall congrats man
-
maybe 120ish good buck regardless of the score!
-
Way to get er done with the bow. Congrats on a nice buck!
-
Great job on that buck! I assume it's too late to do a full shoulder mount on him. Too bad, since he's such a great first deer and a memory you'll have the rest of your life. Euro mounts are very cool, but if it were me and I could scrape up the money after tuition was paid........
-
120-126" somewhere in that ball park. Great deer and good shot placement. Good job young man!
-
Nice buck, now you are going to be hooked on horns forever.
-
Very nice buck....( Muley) or mule deer
Uhhhhh, that's not a mule deer bud.
-
good work, nice shot. I think a euro will look great with the dark rack
-
Love the dark rack, way to get it done with a bow. I am thinking 120"-123" gross, maybe 4" under for net. Great deer for sure.
-
Congrats and welcome to the archery addiction, I'd shoot that buck every year as my 25th 26 27..........
-
Nice job!
-
Nicely done. Welcome to the addiction!
-
Thanks a lot guys and yah I am looking forward to seeing those dark horns on a nice white European mount. And like most of you have said ill be dropping modern for good and sticking with archery. I love the challenge and don't really care if i get a deer. Just getting one with a bow is so rewarding. haha I am for sure addicted to archery hunting now :chuckle:
-
Around 120 net. Heck of a first buck, congrats!
-
Definitely a nice rack; love the dark horned ones. I'd say about 120-130. Great trophy no matter what.
-
Great buck! Way better than mine this year! I'd guess it about 100" but the score dosent do that buck justice, it's truly a beautiful buck
-
I already guessed and it is a great buck. I hope you are going to have it scored and come back on and update us what the actual score ends up being.
-
where do you all get the bucks scored and how much does it cost. I am really excited to see what its actual score is :IBCOOL:
-
I'll do it for $50. It'll be my first! :chuckle:

You can have it done at the sportmans show in TriCities or Puyallup at the end of January, last year they charged me which was odd, or you can go to NW Big Game and click on find a measurer, I think this is the link to Washington measurers, http://www.nwbiggame.com/measurers.cfm
Give one of them a call and they should be able to get back to you with a time that they can do it. I believe they do it for free so there is no conflict in interest, pay more get a better score type of thing.
-
Nice buck! You should just score him yourself. its not that hard at all. Heres a link, they make it super easy. all you really need is a fabric/cloth tape measure.

BTW...
<------------I scored this guy myself using the boone and crocket web site, then he was professionally scored at the big horn show in Spokane. the score I came up with and the professional score were within 1 4/8 inches of each other.
-
Very nice!

Thanks I am pretty happy with it now I am debating taking it to a beetle guy for a European mount and paying since I heard they do it best, and the skulls come out whitest, in comparison to the boilling method. I just don't want to do it myself and mess up my first ever buck and mount (by bleaching out the dark colored horns or mangling the actual skull.) What would you guys do?
My buddy shot a smaller buck and its not as important to him as mine is to me. So I might try and mount his on my own and see how it turns out before attempting mine. What would you guys do giving my situation having it be my first ever buck and first bow kill?
:dunno:
-
I think I would pay to have mine done and try it myself on my buddies.
-
130 ish ....Nice buck ..nice shot placement too !!! congrats !
-
Cool yah I am excited I am going to pay for it to get European mounted by a professional with his beetles. After talking with all of you guys and my dad I think it will be worth my money to have a pro do it so I don't mess anything like the nasal cavity up. Does anyone have any suggestions on taxidermists around the Seattle area that use beetles and put out quality work. I figured since I put so much time money and effort into bagging this buck, why take the cheap route on finalizing the European mount, since this will be a memory I'll carry with me my whole life! :IBCOOL:

115-117 ... Good buck

Bugs and Bones Taxidermy, they are a site sponsor, just look in the taxidermy section and do a search, they will come up. They should have a banner at the top of the page.
