Title: Harbor freight welder?
Post by: Blcktaildreamer on December 19, 2015, 07:55:14 PM: I'm starting to gather supplies for trap building. Does anyone use the flux core mug from harbor freight. I will be needing to weld 1/4" rod.

Post by: jasnt on December 19, 2015, 08:22:03 PM: I have a harbor freight welder. The little gas/gasless wire feed. I use the flux core wire and it welds the 1/4" rod just fine. I like to turn it down to around mid level and slow feed. Works good for me

Post by: BigGoonTuna on December 20, 2015, 07:03:05 AM: i bought the cheap little 110v flux core welder about 10 years ago, it's been a lifesaver more than a few times. the thing to remember is to keep the drive rollers clean for consistent feeding, otherwise they tend to slip.

would love to have a nice miller or lincoln, but as often as i use mine it's been just fine. you won't pretty welds like a mig because of the splatter, but it works OK.

Make sure to take and share pics of your progress. There are always questions regarding trap making.

I will do this for sure. I am one of the first time trappers with lots of questions also.
