Title: Need help buying new bow!
Post by: BaseballStud20 on January 23, 2009, 09:55:21 PM: So I am looking for a new bow and was wondering if anyone had some recommendations. I currently shoot a Hoyt Ultratec and use a mechanical release. Its a dual cam bow and I am really considering getting a single cam. I have always like the Mathews and Hoyt bows but would like to hear some suggestions from others. Thanks a lot guys.

Diamond has one of the best single cams out there in the Black Ice, it has one of the smoothest draws I have ever felt, its has no vibe, it's light, but it's not the fastest bow, check it out and others as well. the closest place for you to find Diamond bow's is at sportsman in Vancouver.

Any proshop. As far as bows, I bought a bowtech general last year and like it alot. Shoot as many different bows as you can you might find you like something other than a mathews or hoyt.

Also chronograph and have as similar equipment and set up as absolutely possible. Then buy the one you like best that fits your budget. Don't let any one person talk you into a bow just because they like theirs.

Bowtech General... I don't think bowtech has improved on that one yet.
Mathews Switchback... I don't think mathews has improved on that one yet.
Hoyt Alphamx... I think this is the one I would get if I got a hoyt.

Lots of other good ones, but these are my favorites right not.

I am currently shooting the bowtech Guardian which is another good one, but I wish I had gotten the General instead.

They didn't make the general this year. I believe they have the admiral and commander this year.

Post by: BaseballStud20 on January 26, 2009, 04:59:36 PM: I talked to someone about the difference of dual cams to single cams and he said that sometimes the dual cam bows can become tweaked so the timing is not the same. Also, he stated that single cam bows shoot more smoothly than dual cams. I am looking for something around $500, not looking to spend a ton of money. I am also looking at the Reflex bows because they are not to spendy and I know they are a division of Hoyt.

Post by: JBar on January 26, 2009, 06:25:35 PM: Though it's true that dual cams can and do go out of time don't be fooled, so do the single cam bows. You might not notice the timing issue as much with a single cam but all of them can and do go out of time with string and cable stretch. If you're stuck on the single cam and the 500 price range look into Mission or Diamond, both are great bows for the money though I would lean towards the Mission.

Ive owned 4 or so different bows from different makers. Ive always said I like whatever one I'm currently shooting the best. Needless to say, all the others were great shooters too. I guess its whatever you are most comfortable with in the end.

Post by: Hoytstaffshooter83 on January 26, 2009, 09:27:59 PM: both can go out of tune, and if they do its a very fast and easy fix, the statement of a dual cam being less smooth compared to a single cam is BS, any of my hoyts have "dual cams" and you dont feel anything when the bow goes off, hoyt makes the powerhawk in your price range as well, refelx is also good, come byb archery world and I or dana or joe can help you out

Hoytshooter I moved to Spokane for school and probably wont be back in town until spring break. If I have not found anything yet ill stop by in to check out some bows.
