Title: Moses Lake
Post by: Ridgeratt on December 26, 2015, 07:39:11 PM
I have heard Moses is starting to skim over. Any truth to this? If so anyone have a thickness on it? This weather it has to be makin ice.

Moses is covered, should be putting on some thickness quickly! Been calm, very little wind lately. Hope it gets thick enough for me to feel safe out there.

My feel safe thickness is when I see 7 or more people on the ice.

This coming weekend's forecast is down to 5 degrees.  That should put the icing on the cake.

Wife said she saw some folks out on Moses Lake yesterday....cant imaging the ice is anywhere near thick enough. Did not hear of any ice rescues. Fishing this weekend may be an option!

I saw 4 out fishing Moses yesterday as I was driving over to Big R to buy a new snow shovel.   Also yesterday the driving on the back roads was just like being back on the wet side with the slippery snow roads.   I spun an AWD out driving down to check out the top end of the Potholes.  You know if your wife is in the vehicle and starts screaming, eventually she gets into a high enough frequency that it's inaudible.  My dog still noticed it though.

It was a long enough slide that I had time to test out the "turn in the direction of the skid and apply the gas".   Dang, that person was right.  It straightens right out... but you're going faster on the ice than before.

About 35 people out fishing Moses today.

I think they suggest to "GENTLY" apply the gas.

I walked out onto a pond yesterday to try to get a woodie pic.   Love hearing that CRACK.   Tracks filled up with water later.   I am thinking Ill stick to dry land for a bit.  LOL

:yike: I used to trap a series of ponds that really required ice to be able to navigate and I have pushed it more than once.  That CRACK is surely terrifying.

It was pucker 7, only because I knew how deep it was.  If I was on unknown water, or Moses, I'd have been 10 plus.

I still remember my first time ice fishing and the ice started popping. I didn't know it at the time that its growing when that happens. My buddy was laughing his butt off as I am dropping my gear and looking for the closest land. It took a while to get used to that.

Someone has to have done a thickness check, heard it is only about 2 inches and someone went through yesterday.

It was 2 when I went to work yesterday. 4 this morning and topped out at 16. I would think that would do it for moses.
