CA feral pork chops taste one heck of a lot better than store bought! Folks can bad mouth canned hunts all they want. Their prerogative to not go and miss out on shooting their food and learning how equipment works. I have no problem with that. But if you think whacking your own pork chops or goat sausage isn't a hoot load of fun...we have different ideas of what fun is. :chuckle:
Depending on the animals these fun off season hunts can be real bargains. One year we paid $300 for two hogs on a 3500 acre high fence ranch. While there a local rancher stopped by and asked if we wanted to extend our hunt and help him rid his farm of some wild hogs. Three bowhunters headed home with 10 pigs in the coolers...all for three Benjamins a piece! Fun doesn't come much more economical than that. And pork doesn't come much better.
Do you have any pig ranches within driving distance of Seattle/Portland? Come March we may have a new expandable broadhead that needs some thorough field testing on some heavy chops. Might need to get some HW guys to tag along and see what squealer whacking and field testing is all about! Might even need to put together a HW pig roast afterwards. :whoo:

In my late teens and early twenties I was rather rich, care free and bored when the fish runs were over, the crabbing was poor and the bowhunting season had come to an end. So to break the boredom and sharpen our skills myself and some friends would stump shoot, small game hunt and make a few trips down to CA and AZ. Those winter and spring hunts, though not always super challenging, were some of the funnest times us punks spent together as friends. None of us cared that we couldn't brag about being the best hunters on the planet because the deal was rigged. But we sure could give the other guys in the group a bunch of royal heck for missing or hitting branches. So it wasn't extreme alpine hunting. We didn't care. We enjoyed it together and built lasting relationships. Became much better hunters as a result too.

Get with MLB I know he is going to be trying for an Idaho pig hunt and maybe you guys can carpool together and reserve rooms to save money

Thats the crap that started all the feral pig problems in so many other states. Were just about the only western state that isnt yet suffering from this problem, but were on the fast track to join the club nobody wants to be in apparently. Since canned hunts were not responsible for Spanish Explorer, Hernando Desoto in the 1500's, not responsible for the Hooper Bald pig release in 1924, not responsible for the SanDiego zoo releases in 1940, 1980 or 1985 I think I'm just fine with canned hunt ninjas. Unlike the wolf release ranchers can control the escapement of wild pigs. In fact, most states require they do so. The small minority of licensed hunting ranches scattered throughout the US have had little to do with swine population densities. So perhaps it is best to go be disgusted somewhere else!

I do know the belsby's close to cheney have some hogs for sale. I played basketball with 3 of them in the late 50's. great guys and you can deal with them. am thinking of booking a trip with them soon and go over old times. best of luck. mike w
It's no longer the belsby ranch, clover creek ranch bought them out and sold the Oregon location. I too hunted canyon crest ranch years ago for water buffalo with a bow which I was disappointed not going to lie because he lied to me on the phone but we made it fun anyway. If I only brought a rifle I would have been angry the hunt would have been over in 15 minutes.

I don't think the "canned hunt ninjas" had anything to do with the owner relocating to Washington and I hate the phrase "canned hunt" because some these hunts are harder than hunting wild game. During bow season I can easily shoot a doe or a small buck and probably do it every year that's why I hold out for big ones. Especially for some people who have never done an exotic hunt before I don't know if you have. I also like the fact I can drive a couple hours to hunt an animal that is native to Asia or Europe and cost as much as my plane ticket there. If you are disgusted i am not sorry I want hunters to go out and have a great time with a group of guys and make memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. I have hunted both and I like both it doesn't compare to a big bugling elk or a massive mule deer buck on the hillside but it's fun in a different way.
