I hunted elk up there as a kid staying in a camp up on top, and it was a blizzard year and we had to pack up early to leave before we got snowed in.
My question is I remember a Cadillac that had been converted into 4wd, and was going everywhere the trucks could. The license plate was personalized, Remember the old bright greens ones, it was GRIZZZ, or GRIZZLEY.
Does any one on here know who this was, or did you see it too?

Well I'm 47 now so maybe those that knew, or saw it are long in the tooth or have gone to the happy hunting grounds in the sky. :dunno:

Howdy Boss, I remember a fellow that was called Grizz in the early 70's, hung out around the Peola- Charley creek- Mud Flat area. Guess we were too mild mannered for him, he moved on after a few years. His name was Dave Frisbee, as I recall, no Caddy, but he was ringy enough to be called a " character" by the locals. Last I heard of him, he had settled in the Grande Ronde area, Boggans- Troy Oregon, or there abouts. Hope this helps, had to dig up some dusty memories to find these tid bits. Tight lines, fishing fool.

Could have been him. Peola is the main line area above POMEROY right? It's been a few years.

"Peola" on a map would be south and east of pomeroy a bit. The only thing left of Peola proper is the cemetery.

Yep, I rode by there on my bike two summers ago. :chuckle:
Took a picture and used it on where in WA am I. Took awhile but someone finally got it.

Yes, you have the right area in mind, lies next to the boundary with the Umitilla Nat Forest. As memory serves me, the 83-84 time frame was in the black-powder era for this area, Ol' Grizz went off the scale for the buckskin-tipi- mountain man program. No, I didn't see the Caddy but did see a mid 60's Rambler station wagon, 4 door, 4x4 chassis, well built, big snotty winch up front. They got around with the best of them, were from the Tri-Cities region. Lord, I miss those times, we actually had elk to pursue.... FF

It was during the modern season when I hunted.
