Thought about a pm to just Bigtex but maybe some on here have an experience with my question. When points are awarded for a poaching case, is the up to 10 points awarded per case, or per person if two or more reporting parties are involved? If two guys are the reporting party, are the points split or up to ten each? Thanks

In my experience...not split

so did you or your friends each get the same amount, 10 each??

10 each.

Thank you!

If two individuals provide different information leading to an arrest they should both receive points. If 25 people line up to turn in the same poacher with the same information they're not all going to get ten points.

6. Citizen reward for reporting violations - bonus points: A person who provides information which contributes substantially to the arrest of another person for illegally hunting or killing big game or an endangered species as defined by Title 77 RCW is eligible to receive ten bonus points toward the special hunting permit drawing for one application category of deer or elk special hunting season permits.
A. Only ten bonus points can be awarded for providing information for each person charged regardless of the number of violations involved.
B. Selection of bonus points is in lieu of application for a cash award.

A situation I have knowledge of, the 10 points were split between two parties that both played roles in the conviction.

I haven't seen BigTex on here in a while. Is he all right?

Key points from the RCW:
• Points are awarded at the discretion of an enforcement officer. The individual who provides information is eligible, not guaranteed to receive points. The officer determines if the information contributes substantially to the arrest:
A person who provides information which contributes substantially to the arrest of another person for illegally hunting or killing big game or an endangered species as defined by Title 77 RCW is eligible to receive ten bonus points toward the special hunting permit drawing for one application category of deer or elk special hunting season permits.
• A total of ten points per person arrested may be given:
Only ten bonus points can be awarded for providing information for each person charged regardless of the number of violations involved.
• The points may be used for deer or elk permit drawings only.

Key words are up to 10 points and eligible. I reported three poachers (same incident) and all were convicted. They had killed 3 does and a small buck in January. I got a TOTAL of 10 points. It is up to the discretion of the Game Warden. If the Warden decides that it wasn't worth 10 points per conviction then they can, at their discretion, award less.
While I didn't turn in the poachers for the points, more because they were trespassing and killing deer on the wintering grounds, I was a bit miffed about the points, especially because the way the enforcement of it was handled it put my family in potential danger and put me in a very sticky situation where I was basically afraid that I might have to defend myself. I was basically blown off by folks in Olympia when I tried to make a complaint. :bash: :bash:

Bearhunter- were you thinking you should have received 30 points?
-
Technically yes. 3 defendents that each received multiple convictions that they never would have been able to get without my help should have been 30 points. I would have done it without the points but the points would have been nice, especially the way the incident was handled.
-
3 separate citations were wrote, I'd say you should have gotten 30 points, don't see why not?

:yeah:
I would think it was three individuals packing one animal out it would be 10 points but three people and 4 deer sounds like a no brainer of 10 points for each person convicted, if there would have been 4 people one for each deer I would have thought 40 points.
I assume all four deer were shot at the one time and that is why they only did 10 points but that doesn't seem right.
No matter what the points were, thanks for turning them in and putting yourself at risk for retaliation, it was the right thing to do. I read a report once that said poachers take two animals illegally for every one animal taken legally. If we just eliminated poaching think of how many animals there would be to harvest. We could have longer seasons and larger bag limits.

I have seen where they were split in a couple of cases as well
