I primarily hunt upland, decided to try waterfowl this year. Third time out this season, shot my first duck. Common Goldeneye hen. My dog didn't seem to believe me that there was a bird on the other side of the pond. While I was trying to convince him to swim out he flushed a snipe, so I shot my first snipe too. Pretty good day!

Congrats on the first of many! Great looking dog, too.

Nice job the addiction has started

Good work! I believe that is a drake however and not a hen?

JMO but to me it looks like a drake bufflehead. In any case congrats on your first duck and your dog's first retrieve. Two thumbs up.

Nice! Welcome to the club.

I think that's just the crappy camera phone picture. It had a solid brown head, no white spot. But I'm pretty new, the picture in the regs and my ID book don't always look like the real thing.

Young common drake. Lots of them this year.

Congrats. Welcome to the waterfowlers tribe.

I feel for you JB. After you wrestle with cleaning that bird, just know that all the others come apart much easier.

Thank god, it was a chore cleaning that thing. I'm used to cleaning quail, they just pull right apart.

Great job! The first of many to come

If it had no white spot, and the head was solid brown it was def a hen GE.
