Title: What to do with Elk Ivories
Post by: E-Town Hunter on January 21, 2016, 02:50:53 PM
Got the two Ivories from my bull this year and wondering what to do with them. Give me some ideas. I'm not much of a jewelry guy so I'd prefer not to have them made into rings, earrings, or necklaces.

always thought it would be cool to make a hat band for a cowboy hat with some ivories and bear claws. something I'm going to do in the future.

Wildlife In Gold http://www.wildlifeingold.com/Home.html located in Quilcene, do awesome work with elk ivory, you might contact them to see if they will be at the Sportsman Shows.

After looking at the elk ivory jewelry on that site, I can't say I'm a fan of ivories as a jewel stone.  Kind of looks gross to me, to be honest.
Good luck with the ivories!

My wife took about 6 sets and connected them with hemp cord and made an anklet.  I was kinda skeptical when she told me what she wanted to do but it turned out pretty cool and was free.

I'm sure you could have them set in a knife handle   :dunno:

I drilled a hole in the center of mine and threaded them onto a piece of leather and use them as a pull on my hunting pack......I consider them to be a good luck charm.

My buddy had them made into a ring.  I have not done anything with mine but was thinking about doing some pictures of the hunts and putting the ivories and pictures in a shadow box or something like that.

I put one in each side of my mouth while bugling.

A few years ago I built concrete countertops for my kitchen and imbedded a pair of ivories in the peninsula area where guests congregate. Makes for a great conversation piece. My wife was pissed, but they are literally set in stone. Sorry babe!

Just polish them and throw them in a zip lock bag until you think of something to do with them ...

I think I have them scattered in various spots.  I guess I should throw them all into one container and put them somewhere.
