I am thinking tikka t-3 or Sako A7....which one would you buy and WHY? OR what would you buy? and WHY??
-
I have only had minimal experience with both. The Sako's have not been accurate enough even with extensive reloading. They have held right in the 1-1.5"/3 @ 100yds. Should have been much more accurate for what they cost. Tikka's have been accurate, but I don't like the small ejection port. I prefer easier access for loading, unloading, and just general use. The small ejection port limits things from getting into your magazine bolt area and that is a good thing.
Based on the guns I have shot of these two it would be the Tikka.

wow..... I think im going to email or call them and just ask them..I heard that they have the SAME barrel!!!
-
Correct...but do they have the same receiver, bolt, stock, bedding, trigger, magazine, floor plate, etc? If they are exactly the same then get the one that is cheapest or you like the looks of the most.
-
They do have the same barrels... now... but I don't think that was the case before the T-3. It ain't just the barrel that makes a rifle accurate though.
All the Tikka T3's I've seen/shot... shoot well under an inch. I've played with a couple of Sakos... and they all shot too. I don't think you can go wrong with a Tikka... though I don't like all the plastic they come with.

I think the barrel is the only common between the two rifles....hard to find good info on the web!
-
I've heard same action also :dunno:
MS
-
well the website says same barrel, but the sako a7 has a new reciever....
what about caliber? any suggestions? I am thinking .270
-
I bought a Tikka T3 last week. I was at Cabelas and compared the T3 and the Sako A7 side by side. The Tikka T3 had a much smoother action than the Sako. They looked like the same gun except for Stock color, Gray versus Black. It didn't take me long to see that the Tikka was a much better choice.
As a side note, It shot the first three shots in the same hole at 50 yds.

wow!!!

I own a Tikka and I really don't like that plastic bolt shroud.
I would buy a Sako
-
I own a Sako M995. Love that gun. Love it's accuracy .5 MOA out to 300 yds. if I do my job. Comfortable to shoot.
That said, my next store bought rifle is a Tikka. Price difference alone is enough to make up my mind.

Keep in mind the comparison it to the Sako A7, it is new on the market and not much more than the T3

:)Sako actions and Tikkas are all together different. they share barrels. They are both very accurate. If I had to choose I'd take Sako everytime and yes I own both. The Tikka is slightly "slicker" but the Sako more dependable and traditional. The Sako is not a true controlled feed but close. Both are guaranteed accuracy. Both brands I have shot shoot VERY well.
I personally consider the Sako as good as most custom "production' rifles and far better than any Kimber or Cooper, all the Browning, Weatherbys, Rem, win, Howa Savage etc....... are not as good as the Tikkas.
I do not know that I'd buy the A7, but the 85's/75's are wonderful. Now older Sakos are truely Wonderful!!!

well i can get the tikka for 499.00, the asko a7 for 849.00...

Caliber choice.....search that one...tons posted on it. Just remember most are very biased towards their caliber of choice. Look at the info, compare ballistics, your situation (reload or not), your comfort with shooting, animals your going to hunt, then make a choice that best suits you.
-
ok now...tikka t3 or tikka hunter(wood stock version) what would everyone pick?
-
Stainless-Synthetic not even a question or thought for blue or wood.
-
well why? other then less maintainence.... i am not a fan of stainless at all..dont know why...maybee hunting and shiny crap to me dosnt make sense...
-
T3 synthetic. I have one, like it (except for the plastic clip). I wouldnt go with wood cause I live on the wet side...
Blued barrel, again, thats just me. I dont care for stainless.
-
cool..what about cailber? Im thinking .270..but open to suggestion..i dont think i want anything to big..i am a big flincher...I know I know..
-
For a deer rifle, I don't mind the stainless, but for a yote gun I prefer matte black so its not shiny. No more wood stock guns for me either. Wood swells when it gets wet, and I would be too scared of scratching it. Too much plastic on the Tikka for me. Haven't checked out the A7's. :twocents:

You give me a rifle with a wood stock and blued barrel... after 5 seasons it'll look like a fence post. Synthetic/Stainless is the only way to go... especially living on the wet side of the state. Just because it's stainless... don't mean it's shiny... my bead-blasted stainless finish is much less reflective than most blued rifles... and, it's WAY better looking.
-
I have it in .300 wsm. But .270 would be nice for you. You can do bout all you need with a .270. I got the .300 wsm as I dont like things to move after I hit them. ;)
Just find something you can shoot comfortably and confidently, and go from there. ;)
-
sako's synthetic stock isnt as plastic and the tikka's
-
Dude... it's either plastic... or it ain't.

see i dont like the look at all! the new ruger 10/22's have a hard noon refelctive finish and i really like that, I know I could pay and get it done..but what a waste of money
-
now would you recomend using the built in rails on the reciever or having rings mounted?
-
use the built in rails, get a standard caliber, 270, 308 or 30/06, buy a rattle can of dull paint if you dont like stainless.
-
ok everyone, what caliber and why???? something for an all around hunting rifle coyote to bear..what ya got? looks like im gonna buy a tikka t3
-
T3, stainless/synthetic, 7mm-08.....exactly like the one resting against the 300WSM in my safe.
I would buy an upgraded ring setup....deadnutz, talley or warne.
-
.270 is a great all-around caliber that will get the job done. Like was mentioned, Stainless is the way to go over here on the wetside. My buddy shoots his dad's old rifle that is wood/blued and I cringe every time I look at it.
-
so i figured i can can get tikka t3 for 543.49 after tax and a leupold vxII 3-9x40 for 269.00 plus tax.....hmmm looking like its coming soon!
-
is 300 win mag to big for deer?
-
is 300 win mag to big for deer?
Nope. I used one for Blacktail for a few years...just try not to hit meat. :twocents:
-
took two deer this year with my tikka in 300 win. this is my favorite riffle, nay my favorite firearm that i own. with my finely tuned reloads i shoot very small clover leafs about 1 inch high dead center at 200 yrds and a little over a inch and a quarter high at 100 yards. thats plenty good for my hunting ;)
-
humm...ide go sako for name. purely a much more sought after gun...but tikka for quality is well up there.....
ide go sako if i had the money either way though.
-
I worked up some load for my brother Tikka Lite Hunter in 300 Win Mag. I had a brake put on it b/c of recoil.
Picture says it all. Velocity was a little low but accuracy was good.
Picture says
200 yards,
71 grains of RL 19
165 Grain Accubonds
-
I would recommend a .308 for deer, bear and coyotes, even short range for elk. Recoil is minimal, and ammo is everywhere.

If you want to age yourself.....pick up a 30-06. :chuckle: :chuckle:

thats what i was shooting..
-
Whichever you decide you will end up with a good shooter. Post pics when she arrives!
-
If you cant shoot well enough to kill deer, bear and elk with a 308, you do not belong hunting at all.
