So son got a mallard hen with green striping in the head is it worth mounting or is this common?

Probably an old hen. You will see them with the green at times. Most likely not an eclipse drake at this time. A picture will help confirm this.

What H20 said. The bill tells all. Old hen. Not that uncommon.
It's kind of like your grandma growing a mustache.

Shot an old banded hen this year. She was eight and had a lot of green on her head. I consider a duck that is that old a trophy. :dunno:

Thanks for the info I know everything pointed to hen just had never seen the green before on a hen.

I've heard of a couple banded mallards that were over 20 years old :yike: Thats a lot of decoy spreads they have flown over!
