So I'm in the market for either a tikka t3 or browning xbolt in 243 (feel free to share your opinions on this). I have been looking at gun broker and was wondering if you pay sales tax on online purchases?
You should plan on paying Washington state use tax( I think that's what they call it ) and transfer fee at the FFL you choose to use for your transfer.

Only online companies who are based in WA will charge sales tax. When the gun is shipped to a FFL in WA, some charge sales tax and some don't.
Pretty sure they are "supposed to", whether they do or not could be up in the air.

I think you're better off going to a local dealer instead of buying online now that the state is requiring the FFL to collect tax.
I have never found a local deal that could match online if you shop around and know where to look.

Walmart might be worth checking. I believe they can order anything you want.

I can get a tikka t3 stainless for 700 plus tax locally. I refuse to step foot in a Walmart! Thanks for the advice guys. I love the action in the tikka but that browning is sure good looking!

FFL's have always been required to collect the tax if you buy online. 594 didn't change that. Like mentioned, some choose to not collect it though.
I don't recall the year exactly, I am guessing about 2010 or so they started collecting on Internet sales at several FFL's I was using at the time. I can't say for sure if it was required or not prior to then but, I had never paid tax prior to then. I was specifically told by a few dealers it was now required by the state. I dont know if it was simply not enforced prior to then or if there was a law change but, I was told it was a law change then. Maybe someone else recalls it also.

The distinction the way I read it is did the weapon come from a private seller or a "dealer/FFL". :)

Since the Washington Governer got involved in on line gun sales to collect tax you should only be taxed when buying from a business not a private seller. You can buy from private sellers on GunBroker as well as FFL holders/dealers. The FFL I use only adds WST on incoming firearms from a business and never from a private seller.

What FFL transfer guy do you use?
To the original poster, buying online can save you cash. Every year I buy guns from out of State and have them shipped here to JC's Pawn Shop up in Mt. Vernon to do the transfer. They always charge the BS Washington State "Use Tax".
A couple of years ago I bought a new Sig Saur Mosquito from Piazza Jewlery & Pawn out of Missouri, With the shipping, transfer fee and the "Use Tax it was cheaper then Cabelas base price for the same gun, so searching around can save you money on your purchase.
I buy older 22 rifles and older 410 shotguns, many from out of State, I got a C&R Permit, I buy these guns, send them a copy of my Permit and get them shipped directly to me at the house. It is a Class 3 FFL License, so no transfer needed, My first purchase paid for the $30 - 3 year permit.
These Permits are good for guns over 50 years old, Military Guns and Commemorative Guns.
I'll be picking up a 22 Handgun locally in a week or two with my C&R Permit, non NICS Check, just finish paying it off, give them a signed copy of my Permit and go home with it.
Check out ArmsList in different States for the gun you are looking for, I've found some good deals looking else where. Some times you can make an offer and get it at for lees the advertised.
By the way, nice choice of rifles.
