Yesterday I drove halfway across this state for this gun. One I have been looking for for a few months now. Nothing special, a Remington 700 SPS chambered in 300 WSM but I really look forward to the build. This rifle will see a lot of use and abuse. I will post pictures as the build continues.
Carpsniperg2 really made it easy, Matt is was great to see you. Thanks for hooking me up! I would recommend Split Diamond Tactical to anyone.
A couple really good guys joined me on the adventure, it was good to talk and share some laughs. If either of you two ever need somebody to ride shotgun on a "gun run" let me know.
-
That's a really nice looking rifle. I like the black synthetic and stainless.
I wish I didn't see this thread... lol.
I've been wanting to purchase a Rem 700 (had one years and years ago) and kept putting it off, now I want one of those, but I'm trying to not spend $$$
-
Awesome lookin gun! Glad you could put up with me for that long! :chuckle:
Can't wait to get out and burn some powder!
-
Now you just need to find brass and ammo for it! :chuckle:
What are you plans for this?

I have been buying that up for a few months haha. I will bed the action, Seekins rail and rings (with loctite) then Viper PST or Nightforce SHV on top

If you have a Cabelas around you, check the bargain cave for a PST. I just bought my second one in about a month from them. Last one was a 6-24x50 FFP MIL/MIL for $675 and today I picked up a 4-16x50 FFP MIL/MIL for $620. I sold the 6-24 for $800 but I may keep the 4-16 to try it out. I think they're factory refurbs and that's why they're so cheap.

Ya know, I could get banned right now and I wouldn't even care because my new rail didn't stick to my receiver just now when I removed it. I haven't JB welded one to a gun yet, but I always get nervous :yike:

That's how I feel every time I bed a rifle stock. There have been a few close calls though! Release agents are your friends!

So true :chuckle:

Don't ruin this good topic.. :chuckle: Nice rings and rail your getting closer.
-
Hahaha! I had to call BULLBLASTER one night to talk me off the ledge from buying a Tikka :chuckle:
I am excited to post up finished pics but unfortunately the rings and base are a little easier to pull the trigger for...speaking of that, Timmey on the way!
-
Yeah the buying the little things are pretty easy it is those scopes that hurt. I have a spare vortex viper 30mm if you want to borrow tell you get your optics. Not sure how long it is going to be tell you get something.
-
Do you plan to stick with that stock? I've always liked the wsm's. Tagging along.

I've got a few lying around for Spring Bear and load development, thanks man I really appreciate the offer

Planning on it, yeah. I was fondling it yesterday and gosh do I like the short action along with the performance of a WSM
-
Sweet looking gun! I bought a 7mm last season and kinda wish I'd have gone withe the short action. You're making me want to buy another gun >:( I hate you right now!!! :chuckle: JK of coarse! :hello:
-
:chuckle: 7mm was one of my considerations but I went with the short action because... oh wait, you already know
-
What bullet you plan to try first? I have some 185gr vld's just weighting down my bench lol

I've got 300 190 grain Accubond Long Range to load up.
I've also got 3 boxes of factory Nosler ammo, loaded with the 180 ABs. Gotta get quality brass somehow :dunno:
:chuckle:

well if you get the itch to try some bergers I'd let them go to you for way cheap! They are all the same lot (260 ct). My rifle likes the 210's so much better I won't shoot these anymore.
Good luck. Looking forward to your range report.
-
Thanks, I'll post updates on load data etc. when I get to that point.
Thought I was going to shoot this weekend but one of the ring mount screws broke. Broke at like 4-5 ft lbs of torque. Called Seekins and got offered to send it in for repair but it would take several weeks. New screws are in the mail and might get them before the weekend :dunno:
-
Lol I hope you mean inch lbs. that sucks.
-
Yea 4 ft lbs would breakem (48 inch-lbs )
from je customs specs:
Scope base screws 30 inch-lbs "MAX"
Windage screws 30-40 inch-lbs "MAX"
Scope ring screws (Aluminum Rings) 10-15 inch-lbs "MAX"
Scope ring screws (Steel Rings) 15-20 inch-lbs "MAX"

Didn't bullblaster have a problem with a seekins screw aswell?
-
They're from Spokane guys, cut them some slack. Those numbers and stuff can be confoozing :chuckle:

hey I'm from Spokane too....well close enough lol

At least here in Spokane we pay a normal rate for hamburgers and such. I can cobble together a burger and fries meal with $5-7
Out in Yakima you'd best have a $20 or you'll go hungry.

Even got a haha out of the Idaho hillbilly. Don't you have some sewing to do? :chuckle:
-

Mine was on a base screw. It was simply an id10t error on that. :chuckle:
I didn't even try and tighten to 48 inch lbs. I managed to screw it up at 15. :chuckle:
Mine was the short screw they want in the very front hole. It has literally one thread (or less) that goes into the action. That one is just supposed to be snug 5-10 in lb and I cranked it to 15 and pulled the one thread off it. :bash:

Figured I ought to post the follow ups.
She's fairly heavy but it's a good middle ground: heavy enough to shoot and light enough to carry.
Rem 700 SA 300wsm
Added Timney trigger, magpul stock, Harris bipod, seekins rail and rings (bedded), viper pst 6-24
-
Doesn't shoot like a custom but it's good enough for me. 1/2 moa at 112 yards all day and it kills every coyote it gets pointed at. Pushing 215 Berger hybrids at 2760.
For a couple grand, she's a sturdy shooter and I am not afraid to scratch it up. Not the lightest or prettiest but neither am I :chuckle:
-
That stock seems pretty good to me so far! Had one on my 243 for a while. It does add weight but is a solid option for a good aftermarket stick at a reasonable price.
-
Sweet glad to see you got her up and running :IBCOOL:
