Saw a group of about 30 today (in a no hunting area of course) while hiking with the wife and kids. I made a half hearted gobble with my mouth, and it FIRED them up. I had at least one heavy bearded tom gobbling his head off at me. It definitely got my blood up for this coming season.

Last year I missed my first season since 2000 due to my job (aircraft carrier in for a major overhaul). Didn't even have time to do my usual 3 to 6 turkey hunting seminars.   :violent1:

Just found out I'm being sent to San Diego for another aircraft carrier overhaul and will miss this year also for both turkey hunting and the seminars.   :yike:

I'm looking forward to retirement March 1, 2017 so I don't miss another year .... ever !!!

I'll make the opener this year; first time in a long while. There were a bunch of turkeys in the area late fall and this semi mild winter (in my area) hopefully will make a great season.

124.  lots of private land in 124, but there is also some good public land in the area that will have birds. Some landowners will be happy if you got rid of a few turkeys.

Hope to see the flocks this big again!

Lots of good info on this site.  Get some ideas and wear out some boot tread.  That's how I learned.

That's the plan. Plus knowing that "all" the turkeys are in the nw part of Washington helps 😁

I was looking to hunt someone's ranch/farm. But I have found a few pieces of public land that I will visit.

Worst part is that I'm from the west side, so it's a 6 hr drive. But dedicated to get my turkey!

So am I.  I travel 6+ hours myself to go turkey hunting.  But it's worth it, I hunted western WA once, and it was after I already hunted NE.  I'll never hunt the westside again.

I don't even want to try. I've seen a few turkeys last season during archery deer in cle elum. But heard it's a pumpkin patch out there for spring. So decided I'll do everything to make it happen to hunt east side

Week away. I'm not at my property, but my neighbor says that there is a lot of activity. Should be a good year!

Birds around my place (Stevens county) are in full bore mating mode this week. Winter flocks have pretty well all broken up and scattered.  Really on the move, so don't depend on any birds you might scout this weekend being in the same place next weekend.  Great hatch last year that seemed to have wintered well.  Lots of bachelor jake groups running around making a ton of noise in the morning and pretty much throughout the day. I've seen several jake flocks of over a dozen running around.  Should be a good hunt if the weather holds. Lots of private property (newly posted this year) so be carful where you hunt, some of these new landowners are pretty grouchy about trespassing.

Last year's good hatch seems to have survived the winter well, the daytime temperature exceeded 80 degrees yesterday, grass is growing and brush is already starting to leave out in low areas, most snow is gone at mid elevations, big flocks are breaking up with birds moving around good, I think it will be a very good season.

If he doesn't get bumped he should keep roughly the same pattern.

:yeah: A lot of time they will go to a strut area after breaking off from hens or while looking for hens. I have killed a lot toms all by them selves just working in a strutting area.
