Title: Remington 700 long range in stainless?
Post by: Eric M on February 11, 2016, 06:52:44 AM
A friend of mine told me he saw these guns with stainless barrels at Sportsmens Warehouse, but I can't find them listed anywhere. Cabelas only sells them blued, Sportsmens website only shows blued, and the Remington website only lists them as blued. All the reviews I'm looking at are showing blued barrels. So does anyone know if these ever come in stainless? Thanks

Haven't seen them in SS.

Are you looking for a rifle to pack around or take into the high country?  Those rifles are very heavy and quality glass will add to that big time.

I think the long range is carbon steel only. The Sendero is stainless and there is a mountain stainless!

Mine is 11 pounds, 6 oz all up.
 :o
That is with a relatively small scope at 16 ounces.

I'm not super excited about adding that much weight. I looked at the mountain rifle but not sure about the barrel thickness. Probably just carry my .270. It's 9 or maybe 10 with the scope.

Sportsmans warehouse ran a ad a while back for them in stainless. I was a little mad because i had just bought a xcr tactical long range for way more money.

I've got the mountain stainless in 25-06 and that thing is light..it's about 7.5 with a scope and no ammo. It kinda feels funny because I'm used to heavier rifles.

That's who I heard had them too. A guy told me his buddy bought one at the Sportsmens in Bend, but they don't list them on their website. Nobody shows them on their websites, not even Remington.
What the heck?

So if anyone cares I found a couple 300s long range stainless in bend. Too far to drive for the wrong caliber. Apparently they have a note saying they're being discontinued. Weird.

I've been told in Sportsmen's and Cabela"s that their companies make big enough orders that sometimes they can order a "special run" of certain weapons for their respective company. That may be the case here?  :dunno:

Me personally, I would pass on any box ( long range ) gun that did not have a full length aluminum bedding block.  That is the first thing I look at.

That is one of the things I like about this one-it has that and the stock it comes with is spendy by itself.

That makes more sense than anything else. Apparently Sportsmens was the only store that has/had them in stainless.

That is indeed the case. There is a few brands that will do special rifles like that for stores like that. Tikka and Remington are 2 that I know have models that can only be bought at sportsman's.

I've never trusted those bedding blocks.  Instead I just bed every rifle.   A bedding block is no substitute for a good bed job.  Jme

That's sort of what I figured would be the case if you're really going for maximizing accuracy.

Do you automatically bed everything or do you shoot first and bed if needed in this scenario?

i just bed all my rifles. It's pretty easy and after you get a few under your belt you can do it pretty quick. Tons of videos out there on how to do it.
