You can just put in for 1 unit, and if you don't get drawn then you receive a point. That's what I always do, if I get drawn it'll be where I know and want to hunt.

I did mine online and it said I can't have point options with a hunt option and made me put in all 4 choices before moving forward. Last year was the same. Wonder if I did something wrong online?

The person I spoke to said this happens quite a bit. One would think they would include an option on the drop down list to something like "no hunt"... instead, when you try to thorough, and put in the "points only" option for choices 2,3,4, it says you cannot move forward with a hunt pick and point only pick, which leads individuals (including myself) to erroneously thinking you need all four hunt choices.
However, I will admit, I knew better. I went back to my history from 2009 to current, and see I have only ever placed in one hunt. :sry: It has been a long winter :dunno:
Just leave the options 2,3,4 blank and it goes through. I am glad everyone here has a ton of knowledge and caught this before the drawing end date showed up.

I don't what it is, even though I got a moose, which has always been a dream of mine, last season left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it's that I finally got on of my dream animals, I don't know. Still debating if I want to spend the extra $18 or not. With 8 points I'd have decent odds of drawing but really don't have the time or money to spend 2 to 3 weeks hunting on the other side of the state. I wish they still had a permit for Capitol Forest. That'd be a no brainer.

That is awesome. I am jealous haha. My son was born Sept 24th and I had to miss all big game seasons and waterfowl. My wife is getting better as the kids get older. My youngest daughter is 8 months now, and I won't miss any seasons this year. I hope.

I didn't even apply. I have the Idaho lifetime license, and will be hunting a unit that offers reduced bear. She will have the junior mentored, so about the same price as applying for several years in WA, and we can both hunt. Washingtons mismanagement of predators makes me so disgusted i can hardly participate anyhow, although i will kill a fall bear here. :twocents:

This was my thought the first time I applied. Kind of a pain in the arse to buy it at one location, then go into another location to actually make your selection, then check another location to see if I drew, and finally one last location to submit my hunt report. I wonder if there are 4 separate offices to administer each of these sites?

So this year you have 2 points. They never list the current year's points. When they say 0 you are applying with 1.

I called WDFW and spoke with Anita, I confirmed that if you purchase the application and do not submit a hunt option or point only option, you still get the point for the application. It is automatically a point option as soon as you buy the application. If you forget to submit a hunt choice, you get the point. Pretty straight forward...
Also, per the website FAQ:
Do I build up one point for each hunt choice I select on my special permit application?
You earn one point for each application you buy. Whether you submit one hunt choice or four hunt choices, you still earn one point. You can buy one application for each category each year. If you draw a permit, your points in that category return to zero.

Well, what I meant is that you get the point before the drawing, not after. I've never bought an application and not submitted it. So I was only trying to confirm what others were saying- that you never have zero points in the drawing.

Well, what I meant is that you get the point before the drawing, not after. I've never bought an application and not submitted it. So I was only trying to confirm what others were saying- that you never have zero points in the drawing.

I am guessing they changed it like I suggested in my last post because they probably received enough complaints from other hunters. Trust me, I spoke to a guy named Cory and I read him the riot act and told him exactly what I thought about WDFW. I might add I haven't drawn a permit since for anything other than a cow tag, so I'm sure I got blacklisted. I can assure you that neither of us were awarded a point, but I'm sure in the hell not going to search for something from 4 years ago to try and prove my case.
Don't get me wrong, I don't know specifics about the past, and I am not trying to be a db. You are probably right regarding the past. I just know what I research for 2014 and 2015. I just want to make sure we are all on the same page.

This would be true. You are correct, technically, you wouldn't even benefit from the current year's purchase until the next year's draw...
And that is only if you purchase an app the next year and put in for a draw.

Now I can hardly wait for the annual Hancock S____ thread .
For some numbers , Clyde told me that 6 bear came out of Kapowsin last spring season , 5 of them where investigated or are being investigated which sounds like only one was legit . 1 out of a 150 permits is a .75% success rate . I put in for the tag because we are in there scouting all year so I might as well be prepared just in case .

I wait until all my hunters have killed and then I hunt. So far we are 100% kill on my guided spring bear hunts, I intend to keep it that way as long as possible because there is no better marketing tool than that, so I'm not about to worry about myself until my hunters are all filled out.

I have ruined 3 tires in the unit over my 2 seasons there, so I'm pretty good at that. Broke my jack for the truck too. I feel undefeated in that category. I also know of two cabins in the unit on state land... (well more lean-to ish than cabin)

Wackmaster, I'm really surprised that Lick Creek and Mtn View were full before Wenaha, but the fact that you chose them ahead of Wenaha as well tells me I'm the odd one that would choose to hunt Wenaha over any other unit. Actually good news for me.15 less tags in those units combined so it doesn't surprise me that they were full before. The wenha isn't for everyone

For those not selected look at reduced bear units in Idaho. Less than 200.00. Great way to slight for a future fall hunt too!

The only downside is that my best shed spot is still covered in snow, and by the time it melts ill be too busy bear hunting to go looking for paddles. I can live with that though.
