I used to live in Reno and crossed over and under that bridge dozens of times. If I recall correctly the bridge is not nearly as far above the landscape as those photos make it seem. Instead I remember it being no more than 100 feet tall - that's a guess. Still enough to kill...
Here's how it apparently got there...
on Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear caught the ledge and was able to pull itself to safety.
