A couple buddies and I went out looking for some Blacktail sheds. One buddy calls out about 20 minutes into the trip “#1 of the day”.
Asked him if it was nice since I was a ways away, he said it had a nice base! Finally met up with him to see in fact that it was just a base and an eye-guard. End up finding two other 4-points that day, none fresh.
Next weekend I do a solo run about a mile away and find a snapped off upper. I did not even think that it could possibly match up but buddy asked me to stop by and take a look anyway.
Walked in and held them up together…….perfect fit! It’s hard to fathom this story, but west side Blacktail shed hunting is difficult and to find two pieces of the same horn that far apart in that terrain, I can’t even think what the odds would be.
Buck must have broken it in fight and then naturally shed the base when it was time. That would explain the color difference.
Must have been a hell of a battle to snap of a healthy big buck.
