Thinking about having my 12 year old daughter go after a Washington slam this year. I was looking for a guide for Easterns on the west side. Thinking either youth hunt or early part of season but can't find any information on turkey guides on that side of washington. Any information for a guide would help thanks. I know where to go on the east side.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll find one. This topic (guides for Easterns) has came up on here a few times before with no results. There is just so few of them and so hard to hunt that it would be extremely difficult for someone to try to run a successful guide business. And if there was, the price range would be outrageous because of the tremendous amount of effort involved in scouting to stay on the birds. And besides that, most people with honey holes guard them with their lives. Those few hunters out there who have spots and can consistently kill birds embrace the challenge of the west side birds and are not interested in guiding for others, even for large sums of money. :twocents:

If you have the WH north permit, I can point you in a good direction to do some scouting.
I had a great spot in there before they started charging access fees, I wont get the permit myself.
Best recommendation is to get out scouting NOW, they seem to be vocal until the end of March around here.
I have noticed a similarity to elk hunting in that it seems like the toms do a lot of traveling and gobbling much like the pre-rut advertising period of bulls.
Lots of activity until April, then they vanish like ghosts... :bash:
They gobble from their roosts, but clam up once they are on the ground, so knowing where they are and being in position before fly-down is important.
Because the flocks are usually pretty small, I suspect that once they hit the ground they stay pretty close to each other and other than feeding sounds they are pretty quiet.
It is a good way to get out and stretch your legs and get in shape before season, they are out there, you just have to put some miles on to locate them.
Advantage to youth season is that the majority of hunters are adult, my daughter and I have a flock we hunt that one weekend, then leave it to the 3-4 other guys that chase them during the general season.

I checked into the WH site. You don't need a permit until June. That's what the lady told me on the phone as well.

"WH" = Weyerhaeuser? If so, it may not require a permit but you will have to park at a gate and walk in.

Not true anymore. You need a permit year round now for Pe Ell.
