They are running a pretty good special right now so I decided to finally pull the trigger on the 16x20

I am having them add the eave sleeves and the additional angle kit so that I can have an awning extend out front. I was considering buying the oversized rain fly to accomplish this, but its $378!! Compared to the tent that's not much, but I think a extra large tarp could work just as well. Any guys have experience with either option that can throw in their :twocents:

I use just a white tarp for mine, I bought it wanting a foot of overhang on the sides and 4 feet of the front and 2 feet off the back. I paid right around a $100 for mine. Mine has been used for about 5yrs now and it still is in good shape, i'm sure it's got atleast a few years left.
When I bought my tent I had them put a screened window in the back, screen and colorado door on the front and a two stove jacks, that way I have the verstlilty of where I could put the stove.

Not worth the money! Get s tarp of just dont use anything. Ive used it both ways anc had no problems. I hate the noise addding a tarp makes.. And really you dont need it.

Hardware sales Bellingham has white tarps. $50.00.
I set up tent t in the yard . Bought the tarp to hang 12 inches out back and 6 ft out front.
Marked the corners with a marker so when I am by myself I know where it is suppose to be without running around the tent.
Cut a stove hole and tha put a different peice of heavier material for a flap if not using stove.
Just tie it open when in use.

I just like having a covered area out front to cook under and throw wood. A tarp it is!

The tarp is extra protection from UV, sparks , and sticky crap falling off trees.
Also don't use paper to start you wood stove. Fire starts ,kindling and a soldering torch work well and can be stored in the stove.

Congrats on the new tent. I have the Davis 16x20 for my basecamp set up. I think you will like it. I didn't do the awning option and was second guessing if I should have. But after using it for a couple years now I'm just keeping all my wood inside the tent. Even with 4 guys in that tent there is a ton of room.

I have a clear tarp on mine and bought it big enough it adds a 6ft porch of the front of my tent.

Our tent is set up for 30 plus days a year and is over 20 years old and has never had a tarp on it nor any additional treatments. No holes yet. I can't stand the rain noise on tarps, kinda ruins the whole outdoor experience for me. to each their own. I would drop the dough for the canvas extension.

White tarp with 8 foot overhang for the front porch works nice for us,just make sure its seriously anchored.Wind can rip it off if not

That's the problem, its $400 for a poly tarp, which I can supplement with the ideas show above. The canvas are around $600 I believe.

I love my davis tent. Injust use a tarp for a fly. It works and is cheap so if it gets ruined i dont mind and just get another. I havent tried the extended porch but would like to.
