This is a bit late, but one thing I've found that I'm very proficient at is procrastination. :sry: The hunt took place in the beginning of February.
Like many of you, over the years I've applied for many tags and have grown accustomed to rejections a couple of months later. One tag I've been trying to draw for the past five years is a New Mexico Barbary sheep tag. When New Mexico released the results of their draw this past year I received an email that started with a rather unusual phrase - "Congratulations!" The area hunted was near Roswell, NM. This was my first time ever to visit New Mexico and when I realized I wasn't going to make it there to scout I decided to hunt with guide Jesse Novak. Jesse was an invaluable asset on this hunt and a great all-around guy. I was amazed by how many thorny things those sheep are able to eat and surprised at how tough hiking in that broken-rocky terrain proved to be. This was a very demanding hunt physically and I returned home very sore, but very happy.
The pics are of the first morning of the hunt, followed by where the ram was spotted a mile and a half away, than as he lay when I walked up and some pics of the ram, then the trip odometer after getting back home.

Cool
Congrats
Did you eat it ?
just curious

Thanks MADMAX. Yes, I did bring the meat home and have had some a few times now. I had heard several times that the meat is just not very good, but what I've had so far was good, quite tough but good flavor. My wife liked the backstrap that I cooked up, but even that was tough, so I'm guessing all of it will be tough. I had a bunch of chorizo sausage made up as well and that has been good.

Congrats on killing a great ram! Jesse is a good guy I've been lucky enough to spend some time with while in NM.

Nice looking ram. I used to put in for that but it went the way of premier soccer, lol. Congrats.

Oryx or Ibex next? Good job

Those tags are applied for every year as well, I'm hoping to get another "congratulations" email from New Mexico. This ram was spotted on the third day of the hunt, about 5 miles from camp.

Congrats, that looks like a fun hunt. I've applied for oryx a few times over the years but never have drawn a New Mexico tag of any kind.
