Title: Lake sammamish shore fishing advice
Post by: highmuley on March 12, 2016, 04:09:16 PM
I was thinking of fishing from the bank on lake sammamish, primarily for trout and salmon. Does anyone have any suggestions on technique and/or location? Thank you in advance.

Not a whole lot of public open space around the lake. On the SW side of the state park there can be decent fishing at times. New Beach and Tibetts Creek areas. No where to fish for salmon that I know of. Tibetts cove has trout and panfish. New Beach point has trout and some bullhead (catfish)

Mouth of the creek can be a slay fest if you know what your doing! Issaquah that is. Dig some eels in the creek and bobber fishem. Huge trout and big Smallies! I know its illegal! Screw um!

Casting topwaters in the early morning in mid May through the early summer can be lights out for bass. I've even caught trout on a Zara spook doing this. When the salmon smolts are thick I've caught 9 different species in 1 day on the lake using Smolt imitating lures. Good luck, wait for the water to warm up a bit.
I don't advise salmon fishing from shore at the creek mouth as there is a 100yd closure radius and it is patrolled by WDFW.

Huge drop off! Fish it. Screw um! Big fish! Tell them your native or Russian! Only white tax payers get bent over! Trust me! Live long and prosper.

What about specific rigging? For trout specifically.

Live minnows!  Kills the trout! Also illegal. Might try a minnow imitator. Rapala!

Bait or lure? Cutthroats are most prevalent in Sammamish and they are predominantly minnow eaters. I do my best on lures like a Rapala shad rap/countdown/taildancer. I don't bait fish much but I would expect a standard sliding sinker to a leader with a worm/marshmallow on the bottom or under a bobber would work. I would also expect classic spinners like a rooster tail/mepps/vibrax would produce as well.
