After having two labs for 12 years family really ready for another dog. Looking for a quality breeder. My son is hoping for a male chocolate lab. Personally I want a female blonde lab, wife is open to either choices. Our last blonde lab was awesome and frankly the best lab we ever had. However not breeding anymore.
Thanks for the feedback

What are you looking to do with your dog? Pet? Hunting partner? Hunt tests?
Search function will probably turn
up the following WA breeders...
Wind River Labs
Rattlin Ridge
Ireland Farms

For blacks or yellows check with Bryant and Cindy Meyer at Rocking M out of Spanaway, great family dogs and hunting dogs.
-
Desert wind Labradors, they have white chocolate labs. I have a 3 year old male great dog.

You might want to look into Ireland Farms. Warren is a very easy breeder to work with as well. I have a chocolate out of his stock. She is a great family dog and an exceptional retriever for both upland and waterfowl. I know of two other Ireland Farm labs locally that have grown up to be great hunters as well.

Easy breeder to work with.

Pride Zion lab from Kelso she is amazing with our 5 and 7 yr old and is great in the blind.
-
Another option is to talk to as many pro trainers as you can. They know who is breeding high quality pups of accomplished parents that aren't out of the usual breeders. That's what I will do next time around.

:yeah: You beat me to it Tim  My pup from Warren has been a Godsend...not to jack the thread but who else has an Ireland Farms' pup? BTY mine is a Chocolate Female that is 1 yr 4 months. PM if you have any questions. I saw on their site they have a yellow available due to a due to a family emergency or something :dunno:

Teresa at kingsland Labrador is very good, there line has been amazing for us and friends that have gone there. She is in south hill Puyallup. Look at them on the net, over 30+ years of experience. Very loving dogs, smart and even have dock jumping champions. Our dog could leap a mile when he was younger.
-
White Chocolate labs? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I would steer clear of the imbred "Specialty" dogs! Labs come in three colors and that's it. Call Warren at Ireland as mentioned above. He'll help you out or point you in the right direction.
-
Several really great breeders mentioned.
Whatever you do, please please make sure you buy from a breeder who does health clearances.
I know pretty much all of the breeders that were listed. Most of them are great and do their clearances and offer a TWO YEAR (or more) health guarantee.
Several of Warren's chocolate dogs that he is breeding have come from me. We have worked together for years.
Lee Salmon
Wind River Labs
-
BTW...Lee was a great resource for me, it just worked out that I went with Ireland...wouldn't hesitate to go with Lee and WRL
-
Thanks for the rest info. I'll check them out and give a few a call to learn more.
-
My female is 5-1/2 and from Tiger Mountain pointing labs in Ellensburg. Awesome upland dog and does great at waterfowl even though I spent almost no time training her for it. She wasn't cheap though.
-
We have a long waiting list for chocolates. We do have two black females that will do well in the field.
I would check with Lee at Wind River, or Sharon who owns Wind River SST, (Jet), to see any recent breedings she's done with him. I'm not sure if Sharon's on here, but Lee and I have her contact info.

Here is a Ireland dog.

"White Chocolate" is a term given to yellow labs that have chocolate characteristics. Instead of black around their eyes, lips and black noses, they are brown like a chocolate lab. While this not dedesirable in show dogs, they aren't inbred or "Specialty" dogs by any means. If a chocolate is bred with a yellow lab, there is a good chance of producing "White Chocolate" labs.
-
I have a co-worker that breeds. He has some real nice dogs, I think his yellow is pregnant right now, but I would have to check with him on that. He has show quality labs that are great in the field.

It's called a Dudley. Not a desireable genetic trait. Typically, can be avoided through proper breeding.

I truly think that is a good time to get a pup. Summer is easier for potty training.

I live in Roy. We had a litter 2 weeks ago. First litter from this female. Se is out of Alberta. Great hunting dog. She was leaping off of a 6' dock at 4 months to retrieve. Bred with a Silver. We have 3 males left. Great dogs. Her pups carry the silver gene. It is a dilute gene. When her pups are bred with a dog with the silver gene you have a 50% chance to get silvers.

Would like to work with the trainer that had a dog retrieving at 4 months. Or even close to it. I am a first time water dog person and at 7 months not there yet (or close). Please let me know the contact info.

Craig, throw a ball, there Labs! If they don't know how to swim and bring the ball back, you won't have to dig a hole! :twocents:

I always have my pups retrieving birds before 4 months.
What are you doing to encourage the retrieve?
You are welcome to come down and train and we can see what you need to work on.
Strike just under 4 months here.

Been working basic training like "sit, stay, etc". Work got super busy and have not found any training methods for a water dog that really look right for me. She will retrieve thrown balls etc. Shamefully I need to "get started" but need a little guidense. Would drive out to train some for sure!

Craig- Have you ever been to an HRC event? We have 2 clubs close to you, and this weekend the Cascade Chapter is having a test in Snohomish, if you have the time you should visit, chat folks up, and see if it's for you. http://www.meetup.com/Cascade-Hunting-Retriever-Club/
the other club is Whistling wings, and they test on Peppers property ( and Carlsons??) http://www.whistlingwingshrc.com/

My dog was retrieving well before 4 months. The point I was making was the jumping off of the dock to retrieve a duck at 4 months. All of my pups sit, come, stay at weaning and are retrieving immediately. They will all be chipped and ready to go. Took her out in the lake in my stealth, had my brother throw a duck from shore over 100 yds away. She ran to the end of the stealth on her name and jumped in and took a line to the duck, retrieved it and brought it back to me. Everyone thinks they have the best dogs. I do not but they have always served me well. Take a look at some of my posts in waterfowl . We kill alot of birds from upland to waterfowl. My dogs perform very well under all conditions. I am very strict, As far as I am concerned they have a job to do. Perfect is close enough.

Where is the popcorn emoji??? This could get awesome :o

Craig...shoot me a PM...perfection is well...whatever. Having a safe dog is paramount then having a dog you love to hang out with and work with is where it is at for me. To each his own...but first an foremost I love my pup...and love to watch her work. You don't need a heavy hand to have a great hunting dog. My latest pup was not stoked about her first trip in the water...now she launches into the water. Not a pro...far far from it. Just a duck hunter that has had a few dogs...all of which have retrived anything I could drop. Can't say I can help much...but your dog will be fine. Drop me a line.

Awesome! You will be very happy with your pup!!
I have doubts that you would ever regret your decision.
Lee's pups are well above average. A talked to a 1/2 dozen people who have her pups before I decided to purchase one, all gave good reports.
My pup is doing great, considering my training schedule was interrupted a couple of times, for extended periods, over the past 2 yrs.
Other than having a little bit of a drinking problem, he's doing great :chuckle:

After seven months of waiting, while driving through a snow storm to get there across mountain passes, the business owner set a time for pick up, then promptly called me back and told me she was no longer going to sell me a puppy with no explanation whatsoever. After so many failed litters, and so much patience on our part, we were extremely disappointed. Business owner then refused to respond to us. They had a $250 deposit from us, which we are refusing to be refunded because of their immoral and indecent business practices. I've complained to the BBB.
I still have no idea what could have happened to make them change their mind in an instant like that, but I have read in other online searches about their questionable business practices and breeding activities.
Don't get left heartbroken like we did. This puppy was to replace a brown lab we had to put down at two from cancer. Thankfully a much BETTER breeder took pity on our story and is offering us another puppy. We will always be grateful to them!
