Buddy's 530 is no longer showing topo. It happened last year while hunting elk in Idaho. He swears he didn't mess with anything and it "automatically" loaded a certain unit. I've tried messing with it, restoring maps to default, removing card and battery reset but no luck. I don't have it in my hand but I can try and troubleshoot with my 650 if you guys have any ideas?

Sounds like maybe the map detail has been changed.
Go to map set up.
And increase the detail. Maybe that will work.
If he is using a chip like Oxmaps make sure the chip has not jarred loose.
Check the map page settings top right corner on map page.
:dunno:

I think there is a map box that has to be checked too.
Touch screens get out of whack if you don't lock the Screen when hunting.
-
Thanks I'll have him try that. His is not touch screen

He says no go still BUT it does show topo from that Idaho unit when it's in night mode....daytime it's gone and no topo for our Washington areas day or night.
Would it be possible to swap cards between his and mine without screwing things up and would they be compatible? Thought it could narrow down it being a card issue.

Whoa
I am not sure it can show both at the same time??
Is the Idaho a chip?
If it is take it out and see what happens.
-
No he doesn't have any specific chip, just a mini card for memory/storage. Removing it does nothing.

Have him check the profile settings.
Profile change
Put it on Automotive than back to re recreation.
You have to be on a profile that displays contours.
Also you have to be zoomed down to 800 ft or less to see contours I think.

After biting the bullet he finally called garmin and got it fixed. 45 minute download and he has topo back now. The tech seems to think he may have gotten too close to a power station or something magnetized. All is good and thanks for the help!

Wow
Good to know.
