On a slightly more serious note: I won't ask what tag you're holding out for, but I could never hold my chips that long. I draw about ever 6-7 years and have a great hunt....... just not a premiere hunt like you're lined up for.

That's the only thing I don't like about how they split up the categories. If I knew it was coming I wouldn't of been applying for cow permitts. Just wanted to get my first elk

I was talking in general and I was really just talking about the 19 hunts for which I normally look at the numbers. Which do not include the piles of guys that draw peaches, observatory, etc archery tags with their quality points. I also personally believe that 5 points is the best number with which to draw (I did in 2011).

Points are no guarantee but the math proves you have a better mathematical chance with more points.
OIL hunts are all together a different category since everybody stays in until they draw
Which makes it really tough draw odds.

The following graph depicts the “number of names in the hat” for the Dayton modern permit hunt 2006 in 2014. There were two applicants with 22 points. Each one had 484 (22 squared) names in the hat; together they had 968 names in the hat.
There were 61 applicants with 11 points each. Each had 121 names in the hat so the total number of names in the hat by applicants with 11 points was 7,381.
It is therefore evident that it is more likely that someone from the pool of 61 applicants with 11 points will draw than someone from the pool of two applicants with 22 points, simply because there are so many more of them.
The other fact to consider is that draw odds for applicants with fewer points increase at a more rapid rate than applicants with more points. Someone with one point has one name in the hat, but next year he will have four: a 300% increase. Conversely, the applicant with 22 points has 484 names in the hat this year, and 529 next year: an increase of only 9%.

Sorry, just saw this. I will be 31 this year, and I should have 21 points but I missed a couple years. Ghost pointed a few years throughout where I knew I wouldn't have the time to hunt, but i have always applied for the hard to draw tags. Once I draw, I will probably start applying for ones you can draw more frequently. I also have 19 in the Bull category. I have drawn two cow tags since the change in 2010 though, Toutle with 13, and Umtanum last year with 5.:chuckle:Get in line :chuckle:19
