I am changing things up this year after reading some information. After I figure out and mess with a bunch of arrows, weights, and lengths I am hoping to get heavy front end with a 27% FOC.
-
Mathews Z7 Extreme, 68#, Easton FMJ 340's, 100 grain Thunderheads, 475 grains total weight. Hard hitting and super durable.
-
70# Bowtech Allegiance. I shoot 125 grain slick tricks and I really like them, I get 1/3 deeper penetration in my broad head target than I did with the Montec G5's.

Hoyt Nitrum LD @ 32" 80 LBS with Black Eagle Rampage 31.5" arrow 12.4 % FOC 518 grains. Slick Trick 100 grain with 56 grain SS insert

I'm shooting a Mathews Drenalin '08 at about 64-5 lb 27" draw length.
Arrows, Easton bloodline 400, 7.7 gpi, about 368 gr total weight with a Muzzy Mx-3
My bow shoots at a blisteringly fast 265fps with my current setup and I am comfortable shooting out to 70 yards.
I've toyed with the idea of upgrading bows but I have been shooting this exact setup since 2009 and it gets the job done.
-
Wow, you guys have some fancy bows. I have a Hoyt Turbohawk 64#. It's a fairly cheap bow but it kills the animals I shoot with it. Arrows are Nightfall 340s (I think 440 grains total weight), and G5 125 grain broadheads. 10" Stinger stabilizer, drop away rest (trophy taker I think), Tight Spot quiver and just added the Poison Arrow Elk decoy.
-
Hoyt Nitrum LD @ 32" 80 LBS with Black Eagle Rampage 31.5" arrow 12.4 % FOC 518 grains. Slick Trick 100 grain with 56 grain SS insert

Ya it is really fun to shoot. It has been a challenge finding a correctly spined arrow. I feel comfortable shooting it though. I figured I would shoot 80 tell I get to old to pull it back anymore.

Hot pink of course!!
Waxed that string and that pink pops nicely again.
Also just got finished last night making a dozen arrows. Got rid of the solid pink wrap and onto a zebra hot pink one.

How long of an arrow and how heavy of a broadhead? I'm looking at shooting VAPS or X-Impacts through my Perfexion but I haven't heard of many WA legal arrow combinations. I'm considering a 300 spine arrow with a 125 grain head but I'm not sure if the cams would prefer something stiffer.
-
I use 90 gr outserts, I use 100 Gr broadheads. They fly like darts and go through animals like butter...
-
Bear Motive 6, 70# 28.5" draw. Goldtip Hunter Pro 7595 with 125 grain Muzzy Broadheads, Blazer Vanes, Nockturnal nocks. Trophy Taker MicroMidas 5 pin sight.

I'm curious about the same thing but with a twist. I'm curious about what other recurve bow hunters are using for this. I see everything here from 65 to 80 lb draw weight for compounds. I used to hunt with an 80 lb compound, but now I'm limited to a 40 lb draw on my recurve (Samick Journey), due to (both) arm injuries about five years ago. Since then, I've been doing it old-school with a recurve (rather than asking for special medical dispensation for a crossbow). I'm told it's enough as long as I have a clear shot at fairly close range. Hitting where I'm aiming is no issue. Anyway, I'd like to hear from the recurve guys. There's got to be some out there. Thanks
-
I'm shooting a Fred Bear Truth series at 70lbs. 29 inch draw. Easton game getters with 100gr shuttle T's. Inexpensive bow, but super quiet and I love the way it shoots. We get along well ..
-
Most of the time - Black Widow PL Long bow, Spruce arrows, Grizzly broad heads.

-
Same as everything else: old crappy bow, cheap arrows, cheap broadheads, quality glass.
Close eyes + slam trigger!
