Decker, I will be in the unit Saturday morning. I don't know that phone number will do you any good, because there is absolutely no service where I hunt. Bears are out and about, saw bear tracks last Friday when scouting. Good luck to you, keep us posted!

Machias has a good point there. Ill be back in town on the 8th. If anybody is heading this way and thinks they might need help packing their bear pm me to exchange numbers. Hope the weather is good next weekend.

Headed out today and tomorrow!

Hi all,
I'll be heading over in a couple of weeks and am new to that unit. Are there any decent (safe) spots to set a camper (24') while I'm there?
Best of luck to all of you!
David

Hi David,
There are plenty of areas to park a camper in the Huckleberry unit and a large amount of public land and access. You shouldn't have any issues finding a spot going over Springdale Hunters rd.
Good luck!

Great! Looking forward to a relaxing weekend away from home and spending some time in the woods.

Spotted a bear at 500 yards, couldnt tell how big. So i moved in on it, got to 120 yards with a clear line of sight and solid rest. Watched him for a few minutes but decided to let him walk. Black fur, maybe 200lb. Average bear. Too early in season to kill average.

Waiting for my wife to have our baby then I'll be heading over for a couple weeks with wife and son in tow! Good luck to everyone who is out this weekend. Not much sign in my areas yet

Saw a big black sow with one of last years cubs following her around today. South facing slope about 4100 feet.

Bango's on em!!!
-
Not on em now, working for a couple weeks. When i get back to it, it should be in full swing though

Hi everyone: This is my first post. My brother drew Huckleberry. On Saturday we scouted around Hunters east and south to the reservation. Didn't see any sign. On Sunday went up to Mt. Dunn and didn't see anything. Will be back in mid May.
-
RIm headed over to 49 Deg N this weekend. I may be alone so it would be nice to have a couple of numbers from you local guys. P M me if you don't mind lending a hand in a neighboring unit. Good luck everyone.

Hey guys
First post and here it comes! Lol
I'm new to this unit yes I'm that guy from 300 miles away hunting a unit I've only driven through once, I'm a combat disables army vet, and I'm flying solo to the huckleberry unit, everyone balled, but I'll be up there for 2 weeks, red f150 and I'm 6'7" so if you see bigfoot it's prob me don't shoot.
All kidding aside I'm asking a lot on a first post, I'd like to get my first bear this year, where should I start I'll be scouting and hunting any help is much appreciated!

Derekjmcc: I will be helping my brother this Friday. We will be in a blue F-150 SuperCrew. A lot of people hunt east and south of Hunters. I don't know about the timber access land issue. Also, Bango Skank--can I get a PM?

Spotted 2 bears this a.m. medium chocolate and big black. Passed up the chocolate while stalking the black. Wind blowing every which way, blew my stalk.
Day before yesterday was glassing for bears and a few black hairy critters showed up. Unfortunately they were the canine variety.

Bear down. Called in with a hand call. 10 yards. Skinning now, more info / pics later

Well its a pretty average bear. Ive been holding out for a real hog, passed up a couple pretty good bears, but today this bear kinda chose me instead of the other way around.
Pretty action packed day. Alarm went off at 5:30 am and i rolled out of my sleeping bag promptly about 8ish :chuckle: hiked down to a good glassing spot and in maybe 15 minutes i spot a big black one across the steep deep nasty draw. Game on. I start moving and halfway to it i run into a nice light brown one, but i think the black one is bigger so i give it a pass. I get to within 200 yards of the big guy but i needed to get up higher for a shot, then the wind went crazy during my stalk and he smelled me and vanished. So, hiked back, had some lunch and relaxed for an hour or so. Went back to my glassing spot and took me all of two minutes to glass up another real nice looking black one. Back across the draw i go, get close and the wind is once again not cooperating. Not sure if he winded me or not, coulda still been where i last saw him, so i decided to make a wide loop up onto the mountainside to where the wind would work, got to maybe 100 yards from where i thought he was and figured too much vegetation to push my luck trying to creep closer. So i sit down in a little clump of trees and dig a call out of my pack and start blowing on it. After only 5, maybe 10 minutes max, i hear a tiny little insignificant sound and turn my head. There was a bear 10 yards away staring me down. At that point my gun kinda went on auto pilot. Wasnt any rational thought going on. I shot her and she dropped like a sack of potatos, didnt take one step. Pretty decent size for a sow, and a very exciting hunt. Man im tired now.

That's awesome man congrats. What kind of call? Distressed fawn?
-
Beautiful bear Bango  Congrats
-
It was a cheap little primos rabbit squealer. Ive got some fancy calls, and an e caller, but for whatever reason this was the only one in my pack. The bear seemed to like the sound of it.
-
I haven't shot or guided many sow kills. Actually I can only remember us tagging one. But, I'd have to say that one is pretty darn good! Beautiful
-
BEAUTIFUL hide and a very nice bear. Congrats!! Nothing like calling one in, Love it!!!
