I was wondering if I was the only one that spends more $ per lb on Wild turkey than any other game bird...I know sometimes costs are irrelative...right "priceless"! The Wild turkey raises more money than a lot of other game animals. The NE part of the state loves this time of year...Show me the money! :chuckle:

1-300
Mostly on gas and grub for the kids....we already have most of everything we need. Maybe I should have upped that once I now remember tags...oh well...its just money...
-
Yeah kids eat a lot......I forgot that... :)
-
I would guess between 300 - 700. Between gas, food, hotel, gear, and license I am sure I am in that range if not higher depending on how many times I head over to the NE to hunt.
-
Yeah costs are relatively cheap if you are successful the first week...but it is nice to be able to string out season a little. You never know!
-
200 to 400 dollars. East side is a good drive for me 6.5 hrs.
-
If I want to hit the opener, I have to take time off from work and I am an hourly employee with no vacation time.
Then there is gas, lodging and a few boxes of shells to practice (pattern). Also I am thinking of mounting a sight on the shotgun which is not cheap. With the economy what it is, lost wages are always the hardest. I take almost no days off due to that fact. When the shooting starts, the turkeys wise up fast and are much harder to call in. I have shot hens during the fall season, but never a tom. I saw this huge one last year. It was really a monster. Never got a shot off though. There were other toms near it and it dwarfed them.

i already have everyhint i need, so it's pretty much just gas. i don't count food, because a guy's got to eat anyway, right? we either hunt out of a tent camp or out of my inlaws house. hotels add to the budget, which is no good...plus camp is added fun to the hunt. who needs hotels... :chuckle:
-
Time off work, I don't get paid vacations and getting the traveling turkey lodge ready and all the fuel
plus a new call here or there.I figure 300-700 for me
Last year the wife and I figurd our two birds were roughly $98lb then I forgot to add the extra $600 for the new shotgun. We had bought a private land hunt at an auction then diesel was around $4.50 a gallon and towing a trailer to Newport cost nearly $500 fro the round trip Thank goodness we don't have those fuel price this year...yet
-
I forgot to add in the Whiskey! That may take me over the top....lol!!!
-
:yeah:

I agree. Love having camp nearby for that 1pm nap..... Hopefully the sun shines and warms the earth this year. We absolutely froze our patookies off last year. Kids like it when we just nap on the ground in the woods... I love making these memories for them.....and me too!
-
Yeah...well...sort of comes with the territory. Set down against a tree for a while calling....see what happens....
-
I know what happens and what/where something is crawling on me when I'm sitting against a tree calling. When I'm sleeping I don't, that's what bothers me. :chuckle:
You can feel when a tick is on you?

I put the 100-300 range but that may be a bit high. My hunting spot is about 15 minutes from where I live and I have pretty much everything I need. With the exception of a some mouth calls and replacing a striker that doesn't sound good anymore.
-
SpokaneSlayer, your striker issue....
I carry a 3" square of that Teflon pot scrubber material...( know what I mean?) for cleaning up my slate calls and my strikers. I think it scours off any oils which cause the striker to slide instead of skip.... ?
Anyway, I have this "scrubby" material and I tied it to my leash on my striker so I dont lose either.... really works great if the slate or striker seem to change their sound... just a thought...I am no turkey expert....
-
Thanks for the tip. I use something similar. this particular striker, I dropped right after pulling the trigger on my tom last Spring. Well, I found it in September while deer hunting. It had been exposed to the elements for 4 months. I tried reconditioning it. Just doesn't work as well anymore.
-
400-500 probably....
-
I'll bet $100 would barely get the licenses. If we hit Montana again it will easily be $700. Between tags fuel and a place to stay it is certainly not cheap. I do not think anyone can honestly say they hunt because it is cheaper then other food sources, unless they are hunting in the yard w/o the proper licenses. I know for what we pay for the papers from the WDFW one could buy a lot of turkey. That said I guess it really does not matter, I just want to make sure I can show my kids what to do when they try to get theirs :).

Yelp nailed it a half gallon fo Knob creek should get me through opening weekend :party1:
-
Nice....I got our gobble shots taken care of....At turkey camp if you get a gobbler you have to drink a shot of Rare Breed Wild Turkey and Gobble around the campfire...!!! I can't wait... :chuckle:
-
I need to hunt in your group. Sounds like a great time :brew:
-
Disclaimer........that's an empty bottle. I watched Yelp drink that one at deer camp. :hunter: :fire.:
My estimate.....$300-$500
-
I can't remember if that is the same bottle! I'll check...the liqour store is close by... :chuckle: Just remember that if after your gobble shot to not jump in the Fire! :whoo: :camp: :whoo: :whoo: :bdid:
