Straight to the gut :'( he has always been a favorite of mine. For those of you interested, "Django and Jimmie" was a great album release by Willie and Merle last year. He had it right up to the end
Rest in Peace Mr. Haggard, we will all Sing you Back Home tonight.

Ruined my day hearing this, catching one of his shows was always on my concert bucket list. Guess I waited too long :'( RIP Merle, you will be truly missed!

Damnit if I am not just maudlin tonight. Sitting around this fire and listening to 100 different Haggard songs. Really going to miss him and so is Willie.

Sad news. I have a little story to share, when I was at my first duty station, which happened to be China Lake, CA my buddies and I would often get out and about in the high desert, and we found ourselves at a little watering hole in Lake Isabella one night. The juke box in the bar was playing nothing but Merle. Wasn't exactly my speed at the time so I went toward the machine after some old gal had just dropped in like $5.00 worth of quarters, and well, after I slid 2 quarters in, she raced up to me and she appeared very buzzed, very serious, and was not in the mood to hear anything else be played I guess. Little did I know at the time these locals lived in Merle's back yard. We left the machine alone after that, no telling how many of her boyfriends at the bar were there...and the rest of the evening was fine as long as Merle was in the jukebox, our musical attitude was adjusted and no more problems. Never forget that night.

:chuckle: sounds like you got straightened out.
-
That's funny Kittman. :chuckle:

I don't know how many times i turned to my spring bear hunting partner today and said "damn I can't believe Merle Haggard died yesterday". As usual we listened to him as we rolled through the mountains but this time it had a little more meaning.

I think everybody knows that Merle was an inmate in San Quentin at the time Johnny Cash played his famous 1958 concert there. But what I just learned was that Merle was pardoned for his crimes 1n 1972 - by then-California Governor Ronald Reagan. Neat little factoid about an incredible musicians life.
RIP Merle.

R.I.P. Merle. Thank you for the great music and the wonderful memories...
