I'm looking at getting a headlamp, and camofire has some pop up pretty regularly. It seems like they have a good deal on a princeton tec headlamp, but it's only 60 lumens. I was thinking around 90 would be better.
What do ya'll think?
-
Spend the money for a 300 lumen or more you'll be much happier especially when your safety depends on it. Led lenser etc.
-
Depends on your night vision capabilities. I use the pTec Sync which offers 90 lumens. It is much more than enough for me but I have pretty good night vision and really only use the red light.
-
Check out zebra headlamps. They are spendy but youll never buy another headlamp again.

120 minimum and more is awesome.

Look at the Black Diamond Spot. 200 lumen and only $39.95
-
Depends on your need.
Fewer Lumens is better for me where I sneak in. I shroud my 90 lumen light by hand down to probably 25% when I'm sneaking in.

I have been using the Black Diamond Icon for a few years now and love it.
I went this route so all my batteries are the same for interchangeability and for backups.
A feature I have absolutely have come to love is the red light that I use both for reading and sometimes navigation. Both the white light and red light are dimmable that I have found nice. The battery life is amazing.
Lumens 320 and again dimmable down to nil.

$60 on Amazon free ship

Had good luck with the 200 lumen Costco ones. $5 each. Yah I know sounds like junk but nice bright lights.
-
I'd go more then 100 lumens but I'd stick with Princeton Tec. They are made in USA. I have the Vizz which is 200 lumens and has worked well for me but it is only two years old.
-
Alright guys help me out. Why does somebody need a headlamp over 100 lumens? I feel like I am in the twilight zone here :dunno:

Use to hold onto your camera. >:(

Because it's brighter than one that's 60 lumens. :dunno: If 60 is enough for you, great. Your batteries should last longer. But 60 isn't a lot and if you're doing something where light helps, like reading a map or stitching up your hand after running the Piranta over it, it's nice to have something brighter. My 120 is great and really helps me in the dark with skinning and trying to do anything with tools or using small objects. My eyes aren't great, so 60 isn't enough for me.
-
Cool. Maybe the 150ish lumen lamp that I tried was just a certain type of bulb that was funky. It was so bright in the dark that I couldn't even see what I was looking at within arms' length.
-
stitching up your hand after running the Piranta over it
this made me quiver :yike:

I think 60 is a bit dim. I like to have 100+ and a light that throws a beam. I have a headlamp that is 110 and a flashlight that is 200. Really helps when navigating in the dark and trying to find the best route or to get your bearing. Also helps a lot when trying to find a camp spot. Now if your headlamp is just so you dont trip in the dark,60 is plenty. I usually run mine at under a lumen(when I know where Im going in the morning), or 30. Then I bump it to high when I want to see out further. You could do a lower power headlamp and have a higher lumen flashlight for when you want to look out further.

If I'm whining about spending money on a headlamp, it's not going to be a Piranta slicing me :chuckle:

This guy said it well

The black diamond icon also has a battery life of 75 hrs on high
-
I have the princeton tec remix and love it. Majority of the time i run it on the dim setting and it's plentyof enough to get out of the woods. They have them on camofire right now for $20.

Just finished ordering it

That daily deal website has Princeton Tec Pro Remix 125 lumen headlamp that use CR123 single battery up for $29.99.
Good deal for a great light.

Wouldn't go less than 150. Also have bought too many cheap lights. Costco, Walmart, Camofire, etc... They all failed. My black diamond is still going strong after years of abuse, and I now can't imagine what did without 200 dimmable lumens. :twocents:
