Its about that time to start picking morels. I was able to get some last year for the first time. When do they typically start growing?
-
Now.

I have been looking a bit, but have not found any yet. It should be happening

Not where you hunt anytime soon. Still feet of snow at the parking area to the wood bridge.
-
How long do they stay out. I've got a 49 degrees tag and plan to hunt over memorial day weekend and week.
-
There up in notellum :tung:

Usually late April-May in Chelan co

I have a spot closer to home that I wanted to take the kids out and check. With there dang soccer schedules it may not be happening. Your day is coming buddy!

Went to a spot on the westside last week week with a buddy and between the 2 of us filled a 5 gallon bucket. They are out. Found some that were already dried up in this spot as well. About 900 foot elevation or so.

5 gallons?! Got photo evidence of that?

I found a pretty good pile of them on my lunch break today.

Do morels grow in the same place as chanterelles? Or close to it at all? I know different season, just asking about location.

On the east side, your best bet is forested areas that burned last year. On the west side, I mostly found them in mature cottonwood bottoms, but I'm willing to bet there are other places to look. Just make sure you can tell the difference between false morels and true morels (it's pretty easy, true morels are completely hollow with a single open chamber).
-
Gotcha, thanks.

Didn't take pics sorry.

Some good sized ones this year...
-
Are the morels all done? I have had next to no chance to get out. :(
-
I just picked those yesterday near Mill creek in 113.

Thanks, daddysprad!

Morels degrade really fast. Don't carry them in plastic and they'[ll have a longer shelf life. In addition, if you use a mesh bag, spore fll out of it and help seed the earth for an increased harvest in the future.

I moved up to Alaska a couple years ago from the Skagit Valley area. I have a relative who has a place down on the Kenai. The last two summers there have been wildfires down there and the morels have been popping this year. These pics were from a couple weeks ago.
-
Nice. I have a customer who has a place right on the Kenai River and he said they went to the cabin a couple of weeks ago and picked more than 10 right off of the backyard.
-
Costco has them. 15.00$ LB
